It's a bit like the drunk who decided to run around in the nude and take a wizz in the street. After the police took him to jail and asked why he did it, he answered, "I don't know, it seemed like a good idea at the time!"

Back when I got my SUV in 1997, the gas prices were's that bad, so it seemed like a good idea at the time. With the rapid rise in gas prices, it should be no surprise that so many people are re-thinking their "good idea at the time".

Bob,

You hit the nail on the head with all the points you have made, this was very helpful to read.

Never thought that a windshield could possibly affect the speed; I always thougth windshields increased the wind resistance and slowed the bike down, but if installed properly I can see that it would result in less drag. Was going to remove the windshield for the summer but now I'll leave it on.

Without the windshield, you are the point where the wind hits. So, there will still be drag. Given that a windshield is a lot smother than I am, the drag is less because the wind flows better around the windshield than it does around me.

Bob, I just want to update some info on your #4 MPG, my BR gets 80mpg on 100% gas. #9 Speed: my 2003 little Ruckus can go 39mph, my 09 little Ruckus can go 45mph. 50cc scooters can do 35-45mph, the new 2012 little Ruckus can do 50mph(I heard). 50cc can do a lot more than 25mph now......

My bicycle can do 25mph.
