So, everyone wanted some updates, so here they are! As promised.
So my previous shock mount was pretty janky, (i.e. two pieces of 1/8" T5056 aluminum shaped like texas bolted together, and the shock bolted in between them) so i designed a mockup using some kydex and hot glue.
i had my dad draw out my illustrations on graph paper in AutoCAD, had a friend bring those to a waterjetter, and then weld them up and BAM.
All powdered and mounted. (my friend was very nice and powdered my spring too, the blue didnt match the army theme.)
I also ordered the perfect peg bar from a guy on the Faceballs. its just what i wanted, (and i didnt have to make it.) I bought some black bolts from fastenal (not pictured here) to account for the extra material on the peg bar mounts, and had enough to match all 4 floorboard bolts and it looks so pretty.
nuetered my brake levers to do my own DIY shorty lever thing. (ill do finish work before this all gets powdered wrinkle black, but that will happen when i eventually finish my drag bar setup but thats a long time coming.)
put in the blue polini torque spring, then once i put in my met gears and get a lightened flywheel ill start tuning my variator and do an A/F tune with a sniffer on the carb to make sure everything is really where it belongs. (hopefully a friend will help out/let me borrow his sniffer)
fixed my broken ass plastics, and those look nice and shaved (really how everything looks best)
and then i oogled over my tattoo of goku on my forearm (still cant get over how badass he looks)
I KNOW WHAT YOUR THINKING!! why the red suit?
lol just kidding, yes the shock mounts will be for sale pending a week of testing from last sunday 2/28. i also need to buy spacers so we can bolt pieces together while welding to prevent flexing/warping. my mount works, but the two halves that bolt to the original shock mount point were not perfectly square. with some spacers holding the two pieces together while welding in bracing, that will not be possible.
my reasons for creating this were mainly that with the aforementioned janky mount, my shock looked like this / and i didnt like it, and the angle was shit so the shock compressed way more than it should have. what this mount does (on my met at least) is makes my shock square to the engine/swingarm aka looks like this | and brings the eye mounting point on the shock back farther, which improves the shock angle (meaning the shock does less work, and actually performs properly, ie doesnt bottom out, and the stiffness rating is accurate because its not a super acute angle.) the mount is made from 1/8" steel, with a fair amount of bracing so this thing is pretty solid.
i am not sure what the pricing will be, but i will try and make them as affordable as possible, but i will probably have to take group orders (most likely minimum of 5 mounts) so i can get the price down.
DISCLAIMER: this shock mount will only work on rucks that have a SKINNY TIRE, a RUCK SWINGARM, and STRETCH. or at least thats what i have on my met, so if you dont have that i cant guarantee it will work.
anyways, heres my update. If it looks like my train of thought jumps around a lot.....well youre not wrong.
