Slave One was Jango Fett's ship. The front of the Met reminds me of it.

While building my "Snow Speeder" I came across a Craiglist post for a 2003 Met with about 5k miles on it. Previous owner hadn't run it in almost 2 years. I thought it was a good score for $400 :banger:

This build will be for the wife and for me to daily until mine is done.

When I picked it up:

Took it home and got to work.

Removed tank, sending unit, emptied what was once gas, ran some compressed air through it, primed and painted tank.

Replaced fuel lines and filter - boom! she's a runner :canuck:

Tires were beyond shot and didn't hold air. Broke down the tires, sanded the rims, and shot them with some battleship grey before hitting them with clear so I can clean them up after they eventually get dirty. Mounting the tires proved to be a pain in the ass compared to removing them while using the 3 flat head method.

Now that it ran I took the stock carb I replaced with a PC20 on my other build and jetted it prior to installation. Eliminated the air box at the same time, just working on routing for the air filter - radiator hose I used for Ruck immediately got eaten by tire.

While the rear wheel was removed I cleaned up the CVT, casing, and CVT cover. Shot the engine in a gunmetal, the CVT cover in flat black with a gloss clear.

Thanks to Jrolla, I was able to swap out the variator and toss in some Dr Pulley sliders with a new belt.

Next thing to do is to freshen up the plastics a little bit.

Tried out some more battleship grey on the smaller bits. Everything else will be matte black (for now!)

First road test showed about 40 MPH on the flats with my fat ass hanging on. Hoping a CDI will improve this a bit.

Rain for the rest of the week here in NH, hopefully I'll have the slave ready to do my bidding by week's end.

Looks good. Here's my method.

Happypancake! wrote:
I always use Rustoleum enamel.

Lightly sand surface and clean w alcohol

(1) 1st pass spray light. Wait 5 -10 minutes.
(2) 2nd pass heavier but not complete coverage. Wait 5-10 minutes.
(3) 3rd pass heavy with 100% coverage.
(4) Wait 3 days, longer if you have patience. Of not dry where putting on clear, the base coat will crinkle.
(5) Same as above with Rustoluem Clear
(6) Wait 3 days.
(7) Wet sand with 1000-1200 paper until entire surface is dull and flat
(8) Polish w Meguiar's Ultimate Compond w a polishing pad

Works great.

I'm glad someone else out there waits for paint to cure before throwing parts on.

There is a difference between dry paint and cured paint.

Thanks for the tips!!!

I don't always rattle can... but when I do... I Rustoleum!

Last couple parts done and ready to cure. I try to wait as long as possible, This is more of a "I don't like red/cream color combo" and just want to clean things up build. I see some of the paintwork you guys put out on here and I'm always amazed (for better or worse!)

Well I gave everything the week to cure and it's looking ready for a wet sand and buff.

I noticed the air intake off the Ruckus isn't going to work at all. I'll have to search the forums to see what others have been using.

Ultimately I want to swap in a Ruckus CVT once I find a motor/CVT for sale for cheap enough :canuck:

Got everything back together, took it for a ride and back tire locked up once I hit about 38mph.

Once I got home it was evident that the belt snapped due to a partially stripped crankshaft.

Tried to find a deal on a motor here without much success so I turned to LetGo as a last resort. Ended up grabbing the entire rear section from another Met that someone was parting out.

Now to take everything back apart and reassemble.
