No problem. I'm not touching the idle or anything until the intake comes in and I'll order it regardless of how it performs today if only to get the filter in a bracket. ;-)

I think the intake will fix it.

I'll be good to join once I get this build all settled. My wife, supportive as she is, is starting to get exasperated by parts needs that keep popping up.

Just my opinion here:
If you are going to get the M-take for sure.

When you get it ready to install this is what I've always done and it has never failed me.
•Remove the shim or shims from your needle. Inspect the needle and be sure it doesn't have a tiny piece of lint stuck to the tip before reinstalling.
•Install the 38 SJ. Again, check for lint by holding the jet up to the light and looking through all the holes in the sides and the one tiny one straight through the center. If you see lint or can't see light through then blast it out with carb cleaner.
•Install an 82 or 80 MJ. See inspection instructions above.
•Put carb back together and on the ruck. Taking special care not to pinch or damage any of the O rings.
•Install the M-take.

This is a good safe starting point for all the tuning I've done. You will need to adjust the idle screw some, so it couldn't hurt to do that now. (Phillips head screw on top of carb going through that spring) Just turn it only about 1/8th of a turn and wait for it to balance before adjusting further. Don't want it to idle so high that your clutch is always slightly rubbing. I've replaced too many of my friends clutch bells and shoes for that very reason. Also be sure your e-brake is set while doing this and that bike is fully warmed up. Like take a quick 15min ride first.

If you are still having the same issues after doing that, then there is something else going on and we can investigate further. But if it runs good like that and you are doing about 40 on the flats but maybe there is some bogging or hesitation then that's the time to decide if jet size needs changed or if shims are needed. Or in other words, Just The Fine Tuning. :)

Should I get the prefilter for the intake as well, or just the hose and bracket?
