Started designing the new box where all the electronic components will be moved. Since the Met plastics don´t have any room for stuff up on the front frame I have to move everything that originally is inside the battery-box somewhere else.

The only place on the bike where there is some leftover space is behind the gas tank. You get a sizable gap between the front frame and the motor when you stretch it. So there will the electronics be moved. I have been thinking of how to solve this for a long time. I want the bike to be essentially waterproof since the bikes sits in my backyard in all kinds of weather. So I have to make a box that will hold everything and that protects everything as good as the battery-box does.

This is the space I got. 16cm wide. The bottom plate will be 16cm x 23cm. It will be bolted to the crossbar. I will also probably have to fasten it somewhere else to get 3 fastening points.
Image

This is a mockup I did to size up everything and see if it would fit in the space I have. Luckily it does. It looks really messy here since I have removed all the tape around the harness. This will of course be cleaned up.
Image

I have to reorganize everything and make new attachments, holders and brackets for everything.
The bottom plate will be in 5mm aluminium for strengt and to save weight. It also gives a solid base to bolt it to the crossbar on the front frame. The rest of the brackets that holds all the components will be made in 2mm steel.

I have made this simplified 3D model of the location of everything. The sizes of the components are generous and is only the outside dimensions. So even though it looks really tight in there. It will actually be enough room to get to everything.

This is only the inside of the box. There will be box sidings around it and a lid on top.

Red = ECU
Blue = Battery
Yellow = Fuseholder/starter relay
Green = Relay holder x2
Grey = Blinker relay for leds
Purple = Tilt sensor
Orange = Resistor for something
Teal = Resisor and led driver. Gas and temp light

The space between the ECU and everything else will be used to for all the cables going through the box.

All the white parts are brackets and holders with holes in them to save weight. This is just a sketch of it. Not exactly how it will look when it´s finished.

What do you think about this solution?

Ørjan.

I think it looks okee,
What height will the box be?
Why not use a smaller lithium battery, so you do not have to keep the battery standing up.
Also think of the position where the wires are coming into, and are going out if the box

This is no small stuff, have fun !

Height of the box will just be slightly higher than the ECU. its the biggest component. Well I could use a smaller battery but the ECU is so big that the standard battery will fit. The position of all the stuff is decided by where the cables will go so that is the first criteria, otherwise it wouldn´t work.

I´m now working on making the box a bit more interesting than just a square box, but I really don´t know how to make it more interesting and still be easy to make.

Not much has happened since last post.

Started cleaning up the rear frame. Cut of all unnecessary brackets and shit.
Image

Got two of these in the mail. Really cheap and insanely bright. It has built in blinker and brake light.
Image

I have made this holder/enclosure for them that will be 3D printed in black ABS. It hides the sides of the light so only the led part is visible. I will make a metal bracket that will bolt it to the seat.
Image

Also decided to reuse some of the stuff in the batterybox instead of making all new holders when its not necessary. I will reuse the batterycage and the bracket that holds the ecu.

Not much happening. Having the rear frame sandblasted so it can be powder coated black along with the front frame.

Still waiting on the wheels from MachinedMachines, almost 13 weeks since I ordered them...
So after new year when I get the frame back and hopefully have gotten the wheels is when the real build will start....

As I am waiting for wheels I have time to redo some of my initial designs for the rear brake light enclosure. I wasn´t satisfied with the design, it was to bulky.

So this is v2. Bolts together and to the mounting bracket that will be made in metal with the bolts on each side.

Got the wheels today.

Front with matching black hub
Image

Rear with custom engraved Oslo Zoomer Garage logo
Image

Backside of both is smooth. Probably going to paint the hub black so it blends in with the other stuff.
Image
Image

Got this radiator grill also. In black!
Image

Build will start after new year when I get both frames back from powdercoating and the mounting plate for the electronics.
