What is generally considered to be the top safe rpm? I used to try to avoid anything over 9500 or so, but I've been playing with lighter weights, and recently hit 53mph (GPS) at 10150. Didn't seem to have any adverse effects, and didn't sound like a can full of bolts. Am I safe, or is that pushing my luck? It WAS down a giant hill, so I wouldn't be doing it often. :meh:

Missed photo op: Not sure if it's strictly a Missouri thing or not, but some area businesses have been giving out these big yellow signs that say "Watch Out For Motorcycles". I was cruzin' out in the boonies and came across one of these signs, and there was a deer standing by it, with it's head turned just like it was reading the sign. I thought it would have made a great photo.

How light of weights?

What I remember reading is to be careful about going over 10K but if you didn't have that bad jankling noise I would guess that you're okay!

That was with a full set of 4.8 DPs. It stays under 9500 most of the time, unless I'm on a REALLY steep hill. Think I'll be fine as long as I keep an eye on it when hill-bombing.

Since I removed all the grit from the NCY bell, the clutch pads look great, clean and no glazing. Little or no pad dust this last time either. Made a slight adjustment to get the belt a little lower at takeoff, and put the pink launch springs back in. White 5-year-old Daytona contra. JC flywheel. NRM vari with shaved and lightened drive face. Stock Bando belt, leaves about - that much sharpie on drive face. Takeoff is at least as good or maybe better than it's ever been, even with a KN. Still can't cruise at 50mph, but I see 45-47 regularly (GPS) and that's with a 200lb. body and no tuck. Best downhill speed 54.6. I'm satisfied. 8)

Those are great results compared to what I get. I've struggled for years to GET above 43mph.
Although hopefully if i can get my bike running in the coming weeks I'll be able to finally put enough miles on to break in that blue Polini contra spring.

Good to hear your still tinkering with the ruck....

Swap out the std clutch w/ an elite 50 3-shoe. Grabs and holds much better.

Got pulled over on the Ruckus for the first time ever, 44 in a 35. He was actually pretty cool, took my word for it that it was a 49cc, then informed me that technically a scooter isn't supposed to go over 30. I played dumb (easy for me to do) and said I must have had one hell of a tailwind. He smiled, said "just watch your speed. Have a nice day", and that was it. Less than 5 minutes total.

Today was one of those weird days when I seemed to have a headwind no matter which direction I was headed. Temperamental little bitch...

Yeah, the cop was smiling the whole time, didn't even ask for an ID. I think he was surprised when I took my helmet off and he saw I was a bald old greybeard!

With the stock bell, my pads always had a glazed look. With the smoothed NCY, they looked really clean and no glazing.
