fudge. The bolts that are part of the frame on the bottom of the cross member didn't get shaved off before PC. I gotta grind them off. Good thing that's on a part of the frame that no one will see. The mount flange will cover the grind marks.

But damn. Wish I would have caught that.

Screw a bolt in there and give it a couple of good whacks with a hammer. I did that with mine and the nuts popped off. Since you already PC'd, protect surrounding areas with towels or old blankets!!! One errant hammer blow could ruin your day.

Great idea!
I'll give that a try. I think I read somewhere that those bots were only tack welded on and that you could bang them off. The holes have already been drilled out to 3/8'', so the threads aren't there but I bet if I run a 3/8'' drill bit through there (the round part that would go into the drill) I could hit that bit and shake them loose. I have a grinder with a guard and I adjusted that so it can grind and not hit the sides of the frame. I can use that to clean it up.

Thanks!

Yup. I put a 3/8'' bit through there and whacked it a couple of times with a sledgehammer. Broke right off. I pulled the metal that was left off with a pair of pilers, then hit it with a sander bit on the dremel.

Got the frame brace on. Man it's a tight fit, but it goes on. Ran into a small problem with one of the threads on the engine but I ran a tap through it and got it sorted out.

Image

Put on the Composimo mount. A far superior mount to the ATR I think.

Image

Gives it like 4'' more stretch. Nice because with the ATR the head cover bumped right up next to the frame cross member, almost but not quite touching. If I wanted to adjust the values I had to take the engine off... no room to work. Now, look at all this space I have:

Image

That's cool.

So I got the engine on, and put the front wheel, race, bearings, tree on. How she sits now (in my embarrassment of a garage, damn kids)

Image

Shitty picture. Maybe Apple makes something new that'll fix my bad camera. Dunno.

So tomorrow when Fastenal opens up I'll run over there and get some bolts I need and keep working. I'll get it on two wheels tomorrow so she's a roller.

Wouldn't you know it... a bolt for a new part is 10mm too short and the only place I can get it is fastenal, which isn't open on weekends. Time for a quick workaround so it doesn't hold up the show

Anyone know how the spacers are supposed to go on a composimo 7'' mount? I got some pics, but I'd thought I'd ask to see if anyone has any knowledge of this before I posted them.

Slow going. Got the front cage on, battery in, just checking the grounds to make sure the PC doesn't mess it up. I have metal hitting metal when you consider the bolt. The grounds in the cage ground to bolts that bolt into bare metal in the threads. I'm hoping that'll be good enough. I'll get the headlights on today, I think. I can also finish up the transmission.

Pics.

This is a completely redone front. The headlight cage was shaved and filled in (where I cut it too much before) and PC'd. A factory new front BB cover. Love that black while it lasts.

Lights!

And then I was working on getting the guts in the BB. I need to make a stop at fastenal on Monday, then I'm a couple of steps away from running the harness.

Maybe tonight I'll finish the transmission if I get some time.

The back of it is. Thanks!

I was just looking at the rear wheel, and I’m pretyy sure I have the spacers set in the 8’’ position. My 7’’ is sitting about an inch to the CVT side. Gotta switch them tomorrow.

Today I said F it. I ordered an 8 inch fatty rear wheel from Machined Machines to replace my 7 inch. Same pattern. I figure if I'm doing all this work to rebuild, why not totally rebuild it. I'm going to have to sell something to pay for it.
