Been wanting to get my hands on a project for some time now.

So I bought an 09 Metropolitan from a guy on Craigslist.

Told me he got it from an auction that he won but never got around to fixing it.

Thought I'd try to get some use out of my new set of jack stands. Got them from Sears during Black Friday
Image

Always gotta lay down some cardboard.
Image

Now that the bike was elevated, I wanted to check the engine. See if anything got damaged when it got layed down. Noticed an excessive amount of gunk and oil built up around the exhaust and radiator.
Image

Image

I want to clean up that area as much as I can so that I can pin point the leak if there is one. I hope the block isn't cracked.

I need room to properly clean the area so off comes the exhaust.
Image

When taking the exhaust off I noticed that the plastic housing holding the radiator to the bike was cracked and broken. It's held on by four 10mm or 8mm bolts and two of them weren't really doing anything so I ended up taking the whole piece off.
Image

The day has come to an end. I'll leave her like this for now.

BACK TO WORK

So now that the exhaust and radiator are out of the way I can get a better look at what I'm working with. But there's still a few things still on the bike that I'd like to get off to fully do a good restoration/rebuild to this metropolitan.

So I did my first mod to the MET, removed that damn oem air box.
I'll buy filters for the carb soon.

Image

Image

Now with the air box out the way I can see how bad the carb needs a cleaning/rebuild.

Image

Went ahead and scooped it out

Image

Battery too, eh..why not. It needs to be charged or replaced anyway.

Since this 09 was missing pieces from it, I decided to search for another metropolitan on Craigslist to have a better view of what I needed and what went where just in case I forget something. Plus my girlfriend wanted one too so this was her Christmas gift from me.

Before I began working on the MET again I decided to clean up the garage. Things were getting a bit messy and cluttered.

Now that everything's organized, I continued breaking down the bike.

Removed the forks

Image

Left ones bent

Image

Image

Removed the plug and found water sealed inside

Image

I had plans to lower the stock forks but it looks like these are toast.

Should I find other forks and go through with lowering stocks or should I go with aftermarket?

If I want to go with stock lowered forks, is there someone here on the forums who sell them? If not does anyone know of a site to get oem forks?

Forgot to mention I removed the gas tank before I cleaned the garage

Image

After removing the front forks I tried removing the speedometer.
Took some effort since the brackets holding it to the handle bars were bent

Image

Speedo housing was fucked, along with the cover

Image

Image

Image

Now I needed to removed the handle bars.
Left controls removed

Image

Right controls removed along with removing the blinkers

Image

Bent to shit handle bars removed

Image

Image

Look at her, all naked..

Image

Then this kinda happened

Image

Image

So as far as parts go, I'll need the following:

Forks
Handle bars
Speedometer
Front headlight
Plastic panels
Radiator with plastic housing
Rebuild carburetor
Change oil
Charge battery or new one

Dude you got fucked.
At this point I would consider converting it to a ruck, met plastics are crazy expensive.
