Well, the bike keeps blowing up batteries. Tested the charging system and it's jumping to 19 (from 12-14 while off) ..unsure if that's too much. I didn't see an incremental rise as I twisted the throttle, but who knows if that means anything.

Any advice?

Symptoms: the battery smells like rotten eggs after riding. The past 3 batteries have failed. Two by high pitched whistling steam from the sealed battery.

Version confirmed this is overcharging. Searching for regulator rectifier

Cheapest I could find was $145 at PartsZilla:
31600-KTB-771 RECTIFIER, REGULATOR

Also popped my bulbs, so those ran $23 each :dubious:

Hoping this fixes the problem :snorkel:

mmmm. cheesecake.

I used to go through rectifiers on my GY6 like crazy. It got to the point where I have a spare on hand just in case. I think I got a couple of duds though since the latest one I've had for a while with no problems. Of course GY6 rectifiers are not "genuine honda parts" and not nearly that much money. I hope it fixed it.

Well, I think it fixed one issue and created another. Bike voltage measures good now, but the temp light comes on (while the left blinker winks out.)

Figured I'd change the oil, but was thrown off by the 1 inch dipstick :dubious:

Spent half an hour looking for my manual them searching TR for a how-to but couldn't find a thing. Totally wasted all my garage time today :headbashing:

ok, so got the oil changed, but this thing is NOT acting right.

• It's very hard to start (it's always started easily.)
• The temp light comes on almost immediately
• The radiator fan does not engage (not unusual for starting, but if it's overheating...)
• No fuses blown

Recent history:
• Rectifier was blown, creating a system overcharging that blew 3 batteries.
• This situation also blew out my headlights
• I replaced the rectifier and verified it was no longer overcharging

What on earth could have been affected by this to cause this issue I'm now seeing?

Thank you for reading and I appreciate any comments or insight :highfive:

Thanks, I'll look into that

update -- can't find any mention of this. I guess that's the big downside of these limited run scooters--the lack of info out there. I'm not really sure what to do next, TBH.

Hey BA, man I am not a good mechanic, but I have become comfortable doing some work on mine.
Mostly from having read every post BRed has shared with the community, and buying the full shop manual.
I remembered he had did a stator swap on pedito's BR a while back.
I did not know if there may be a piece of information posted in it that may be of help to your issues.
Sorry if this is old news to ya, viewtopic.php?f=30&t=96565&start=0
It is very well laid out in steps, as BRed did for us.
Good luck.

Thanks Cheapeto! I'll check that post out :highfive:

...so, that was quite confusing with no pictures (damn you photobucket! They are the bane of this forum.)

Basically, it seems like they are talking about checking the stator to see if it's bad. I know that my Rectifier was bad from testing and overcharging was my only issue. Now that I've replaced it, it seems to be charging fine (via test.) It's the starting, idling and overheating that's the issue. I feel like it's something to do with the rectifier going bad and damaging other systems (it did blow both of my headlights out.)

Would a bad stator affect performance other than slow charging?

Well, I couldn't take it anymore and practically gave it away for $1,500 just to be done with it.

Thanks to all that helped me try to make it run. I have to get on a bike again and stop riding the fucking bus. This one just didn't get me there so I'm trying for a different bike.
