Ok... commuting home last night, I had to work late, so I rode home at 2:30am... wide open streets, so I said what the hell.
Tucked my legs in (normally use side pegs), and a slight tuck w/ my MX helmet... and a warm night.. maybe 71 deg...
It hit 52mph on flatland! No wind, no slope! :banger:

Going up the bridge, it slowed down to 44mph, and once over, coming down again... still can't break 555mph. It just hits 54.8, 54.9... but never hit 55mph~

Which should I try next?:

-Heavier weights weights? maybe Dr pulley sliders? I'm still on rollers
-shaving my Polini variator?
-Met gears?

Good job - 52 on flats is pretty respectable, considering how quickly you probably get there with the bb.

If you are hitting the limiter, then you could go heavier weights to delay that. But, I was under the impression that most guys go lighter weights with more power, as the increased revs garner the most gains throughout the powerband. My own personal experience, my Ruck limped with the 6.5 dr pulleys in (slower acceleration, wouldn't do higher than 45 on flats, 48 on inclines), but pulls very well with the 6.0's (current speeds). I was even tempted to try the 5.5's, but since I've been getting such good balance of both power and top speed, I've just hung in with the 6.0's. I've read about some bb's with met gearing have as light as 4.5g weights and are regularly pulling 58+. I have no reason to think that your engine doesn't have the same potential.

But, like myself, most of these guys have the unlimited Posh unit, so I think that's what's giving me a nice pull. When you are bombing down hills, does the rev limiter kick in? Or does it just whine and whine, acting like it's searching for more power? It could be that your jets aren't getting enough fuel at WOT, and that the engine just can't make any more power with the gas available (same reason why those lighter weights might help, more revs). My own experiences with the PC20 includes going a bit richer, and finding that one small adjustment with my fuel screw, as well as a slight increase in idle, plus the lighter weights, resulted in much better performance at top speed (+2-3 mph). I think for such small adjustments, they were pretty sizable gains. I can only wonder how much more is hiding in your engine too.

Hmm rejet huh... This is the best I've had my BB running (engine wise)... great start, no bogging, smooth power, etc... and numbers were right on w/ the wideband... but I only checked the WB readings for a short time. Maybe I'll stick it back on during my commute and see.

I have the POSH 10.5 CDI... but I dont hear my engine hitting the rev limiter. To be honest, Im so busy staring at the mph... i forgot to check my rpm at max speed (slight downhill... finally hitting 55.2 mph)

Btw... the bike is slowly getting a little faster each day... do rollers need break in?

Oh yea.. with my usual back pack, and stuff... I'm probably putting about 170 lbs on the bike.

Luckily that long stretch is actually just a 35mph zone... so I'm WAY capable of my new commute route... :D

check rpms and yes rollers sliders and variators do have a small break in period. it sounds like its getting there. keep it up :highfive:

MRP variator

No idea why when people are shooting for speed they waste their time with high revving variators, MRP will GET you to 60 with 49cc and an undersized rear tire, good luck doing that with a polini without revving +11k

The answer is in your first post, polini variator + 10.5k limiter, 55 is all you'll get

Fixes:
-Met gears
-unlimited cdi
-larger variator for higher speed (mrp or zero)

SL26 all day

I've never been on fan of their looks but damnit you cant argue with proven performance, never saw a GET hit high 50s on any other tire

It's funny that still, nobody bothers to bring up clutch selection. Nearly everytime I'd hit max at around 55, I could hear my stock clutch start to slip. Larger drive faces, weights, and belts are only 2/3 of the issue.

... I think all these people swapping has turned our collective brains to mush on the GET.

papajoe. You still have no idea what rpm's your hitting, just know your not hitting rev limiter right? I suggest a tach for tuning purposes. Higher rpm's will mean higher top speeds (usually). It may be time to try a different variator. If you were wise enough to get the wide band for carb tuning the tach seems a small expense for proper gear tuning. :meh: If you can't reach 10,500rpm with your current set up the Met gears will just make it even more difficult to reach current speeds.
