So I've got this silly idea, actually a whole load of them, but this one's vaguely doable.

Image

Lands End to John O'Groats is something I've always wanted to do, and I've thought about doing it on a push-bike, but the thought of cycling all that way over 10+ days put me off.

So, I got to thinking, how about Zooming from one to the other? There's plenty of bicycle guides to routes on quieter mainly B-roads, which'd be perfect for the Zoomer, and because it's that bit faster the journey could fit in a week nice and easy.

Anyone fancy coming along? Maybe turn it into a charity thing, Make A Wish or something??

Just a silly thought.

I'd be up for that - we would need a van though to get us to either to start and to take us back to where we come from....?

Oh definately need a van or something similar, but that's not that hard to find. and the great thing is we'd probably use less than 9 gallons of petrol.

Long Ruck Round?

So are we a bit up for this cos if so I'll use the convenient "know someone who knows the marketing manager of Honda" contact to see if we can get anything out of them. Anyone got any dates they have to avoid? I reckon late-June could be good, long days, not to hot, then again it could snow. But really any time suits me.

1: how long do you reckon it would take?

2: would we camp it, B&B it, hotel it?

these questions (and many more that i haven't thought of yet) need addressing people!

you pussy -- I know a guy who bicycled from Singapore to Istanbul.
of course I'd never do that myself, since I'm a pussy myself :D

Lands End to John O'Groats sounds like a great journey; I'd join you if I weren't on the other side of the world.
What are the locals like along the way?

Thoughts so far:

  • Route:
The "standard" cycling route (see map above) is just under 900 miles. It follows, for the most part quieter A-roads and B-roads.
  • Time:
Time would depend on who's got a standard (28mph) and who's got a modded 40+mph Zoomer. So it's a bit hard to say, but I'd guess between 5 and 7 days depending on average speeds and how long anyone wants to ride.
  • Accomodation:
Personally I'd tent or youth hostel it where possible, that standard route's pretty well covered for either, and it keeps it cheap. Depending on whether we did a van back-up we could always throw all the gear in that during the day, or we could just go the full Wan. But maybe a hotel for a bit of bum soothing luxury on the final night?

But like I said, just my thoughts, it's not like I'm organising it or anything (I'm not, am I? )

haha. yes. yes you are.

i'm pretty certain the only ppl mental enough to do this will be fully modded, or at least should be.

i'd go tent and a hotel every couple of nights for sure.

this is such a jokes idea, it's brilliant.

also, i was wondering if anyone is up for zoomering to any festivals this summer? i can usually get VIP passes for Reading, and we can ride right into the VIP camping area... :banger:

i'll put the order in for tickets soon then.

sometimes there's like a charity donation charge buts its usually way cheaper than a regular ticket.

check the line up too. it might be utter bawls.
