I'm fixin' to do some longer distance over night rides on my scoot this summer and had been using google maps to plot my route, but what I didn't like was that it gave me only the option for a start point and an end point. You can drag your route around but its kind of a pain in the ass and a lot of times it sends you in a looptiloop or out and back on the same road or what ever. So I started looking around for a better way to do it and I came across this website called Gmap Pedometer. It seems to be more oriented at pedestrians and cyclists but it works pretty well for my scooter needs. Just thought I'd pass it along, might come in useful for anyone planning a road trip.

Now that I'm using it and trying to save routes I'm finding that its a bit flaky, just kinda sits there and does nothing some times. Maybe you'll get it to work.

Use the full Google maps website. Not the gmaps app. The full website allows multiple destinations and the ability to avoid highways (interstates really). There are also a ton off Google maps add ons with Firefox or chrome.

The full google maps website is nice because it draws the route out for you, but what I like about this page is that you can draw your own step by step route. So with the full website, I could put in Point A and Point B, then drag the route to an area I want to go through but it might send me up a road, make me turn around and come back, then send me off the right way, or even take me in a circle back to where I started instead of just doing the detour. I guess you could use both sites hand in hand though, get a basic idea of the route with google directions then modify it on the pedometer site.
