Yaaa finally home safe and sound.
Actually got back a couple of days ago, just been catching up on some sleep.

Last part of the trip didn't go exactly to plan, more on that later..

So I'll start at day 2 as nothing special before that.
Woke to a very damp morning, everything was pissed wet through.
Still sun was shining so it soon dried out.
I left the campsite and immediately started to climb.
Heading into the Massif Central.

Slow going climbing up, but terrific views.

Going down weren't so bad either.
Bombing the hill when.....
These guys passed me

Image
Even has the cheek to wave as they passed!!!
Still I got them on the next up......well just

Arrived at my overnight campsite at the top of the Gorges de l'Ardeche

Image

Tomorrow I'm going to run the Gorges road, It promises to be a good day

Day 3 dawns hot and sunny.
I pack up early for my trip down the Gorges.
Want to GET going before the rush.....Hmmmmm

a short vid, (sound is crap, ya may want to turn it off)

It was during one of the faster descents I realized my shock was completely fucked.
It had been bouncing around a bit for a few miles now, but one particularly bad pot hole nearly had me off.
So decided to make a detour to Orange city, they must have a Honda dealer...

Image

Yup they did, for all the good it did me.
They said "Oh you need a Main dealer, try Carpentras"
So off I toddle. About 35kms. "No we don't stock anything like that, we can order one in. It'll be 3 weeks"
"You could try Honda Avignon, it's only 25km" ......Yea Back in the direction I just came....
Ok I'm up for a laugh, off to Avignon I go. Time is getting on now, about 5:30pm
Avignon Honda, looking good, really big shop.........."Yea we can order you one in"
"Let me guess...3 weeks????"
They said there was a bike breakers near by, try there. By then it's 6:30pm and they shut at 7:00pm
As I said earlier...yaaaa Success, found a Yamaha BWS shock fitted strait on...
Got it all done and dusted before they shut,
Too tired to look for a campsite so found a cheap motel and crashed for the night.
Apart from the shock fiasco it was a great day and fantastic ride through the Gorges.

Day 4. Nice and cool in the hotel room.
Didn't wake till 9:00am, just in time for the last of the complementary breakfast.
Scarf down several croissants and plenty of OJ and coffee.
Ok time to hit the road, walk outside. Like walking into a wall of heat...Whewwwww what a hotun.

Back onto flatlands for a while

Till I came to a town called Les Mees
Very interesting rock formation right in the middle of the flatlands

Decide to stop in a town called Digne Le Bains, nice looking town with plenty of bars and restaurant.
Think to myself, hotel in order here. Stop early and have a few cold ones in town.
Park up in the hotels rear carpark (Told it's secure there ) Check into the room
Back to the bike to get my shit, and find some fucker messin with it.
After a few short words, explaining that touching my stuff will result in some very detrimental effects to ones health.
I decide to leave and find a campsite. At least I can keep an eye on it there.
Found a site just 5km out of town with a restaurant close buy.....Sorted..

Actually a bit desperate for pics.
I bought a new camera for the trip (Kodak playsport ZX5)
Defo ain't a patch on my old ZX3
I took over 300 but lost over half of them. :evil
Don't know if it was the camera or the heat,
but you'll see later how the quality gradually falls off.
Next time I'm going to take a better camera.......
Did I really say next time. :ucrazy:

Not why did you take the pic, why was it there? Were there cave-man caves that you could go exploring or something?
Was fire discovered at that very spot? My french is non-existent.

Doh, me silly fuck. :wasted:

It was a museum to visit between Les Mees and Digne.
Got plastic cave men and old bones, shit like that.

Took the pic coz I kept coming up along the route.
The sign was more impressive than the actual site.

FYI the sign says " Museum of prehistory, Lakes and Gorges of the Verdon
Follow signs for Digne le Bains then Nice"

Google Link...... but I wouldn't bother......

Ok so I've just found a bottle of Chardonnay..Image
No more sense out of me tonight..

Day 5. Another hot day. No breeze to cool it down, so feels stifling
Hoping to hit the coast today. Maybe there be a sea breeze..

Anyhoo, head off towards Grasse, famous for its perfume.
First thing I see is the French Alps up ahead, well at least I ain't got to climb them......

Image

Silly boy....

Image

Image

Image

After about 3 hour in the mountains I finally reach Grasse

Image

Image

Fairly uninspiring town actually, but ya can smell the perfume in the air.
Upwards and onwards, heading to Monaco now......hmmmmm
Arrive in Nice ....And boy is it HOT!!.......

Image

I search out the local Tourist information office about 10km from Monaco.
Asking them about local campsites. They tell me there are NO campsites in the area.
I've got to go the other side of Cannes. OK what about a cheap hotel
Haa haa haaaaaa........starting from 200€. Ok didn't really want to go to Monaco anyway.
So head back through Nice towards Cannes, looking for some camping.

Image

This is where the rich and famous stay when they are in the Cote D'Azur
Defo not for the likes of me...

Image

Image

Image

Have to go right through to the other side of Cannes before I find a campsite.
25€ a night, what a shit hole as well.
Oh well it's only one night, and a nice restaurant across the road.

Day 6. And I thought it was hot yesterday....
Showing 35deg ( 95F ) at 9:00am and set to get hotter.
Short day today, heading to Frejus.
Ain't been there since 1980, wonder if it's changed !!!

Had a terrific trip along the coast, now I'm out the town it's much calmer.
Time to enjoy the views.

Image

Image

Image

Passed this place en route (Shitty pic I'm afraid)

Image

Didn't know what it was so just Google it.
Turned out to be Pierre Cardins Bubble house.

Image

Arrive at Frejus, Yes it has changed...Well hardly surprising I suppose after 32 years.....EEEkkkkkk 32 years!!!
Brand new Marina. and most the beach gone.

Image

Image

And yes it did GET hotter..
40deg (104F)

Image

Now to find the campsite I remembered from before.
Yaaaa still there, ain't changed much either
Apart from the price....32€ 1 person 1 small tent.....AND 8€ for fukin wifi that didn't work!!!!!!
Still the beer was cold...downed a few whilst looking over the swimming pool.

Day 7. Had a rough night, sooooo hot and sticky
Cooler today though, some cloud about.
Heading to St Tropez see some boats..
Then towards Toulon

Image

Passed this shop on the way, where ya can rent a bit of history for the day
(Hey that rhymes.. :? )

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Then on towards Toulon.

Image

Image

Image

I see a nasty accident just before stopping for the night,
Comming down a steep winding hill, I come across a biker who got Tbonned by a car pulling out of a side road.
Looked serious, I didn't stop, plenty of help already there

Hyeres port, pretty little town

Image

Overnight campsite in Hyeres just east of Toulon. Cheap site, cheap beer but expensive food.
I suppose it all eavens out in the end......
