post it as a link :) enough stupid questions about this stuff at times. When they invented the internet, it was supposed to make information easier to get but you'd think people just forget how to use a phone and call the damm DMV (if they answer it is another question).

Here's a tip about buying an out of state vehicle in Cali.

If the vehicle is 7500 miles or less, and is purchased out of state, whether new or used, California considers this a new vehicle and the DMV will not let you register. It is also illegal to ride the vehicle around until you reach 7500 miles.

CHP is not what you want, you cannot ride a Ruck on CA highway

You need to go to the CA DMV site. Ruckus requires an M1 or M2 provision added to your license. 24 question test at DMV to get permit.

Arizona

this is straight from the Arizona MVD website:

"Motor-driven Cycle – A motorcycle originally manufactured to exceed 20 mph, rated at 5 hp or less, and not more than three wheels in contact with the ground. Includes motor scooters rated at 5 hp or less.

A motorcycle license or endorsement is needed to operate any motor-driven cycle.

A motor-driven cycle must be both titled and registered. Emissions testing is not required. Vehicle liability insurance is required."

If it's a 50-state vehicle, it's not an issue.. BUT, 50-state new vehicles are rare outside of CA (being that they're manufactured specifically for this state)

Classification clarification for CA residents:

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/motorcycles/motorcycles.htm

based on this info, the Ruckus is a "Motor Driven Cycle" in CA, and a "scooter" is one of those little noisy pieces of shit.

it's not about smog . as all vehicles are 50 state vehicles EXCEPT diesels weighing less than 7,000 lbs

it's about people trying to avoing paying california sales tax by buying a vehicle in a state with no sales tax or lesser sales tax .

Hawaii is so messed up that the laws are different for each island! Big Island (Hawaii) registers as moped. Oahu (Honolulu, Waikiki, etc.) You need a motorcycle license, plates. title, registration and insurance. And the various outlets have no idea what the others are doing! Internet? Cell phones don't even work when the electricity goes out, (every time the wind blows)! Just another shitty day in PARADISE!
