Post subject: Does fuel tank have petcock? Not getting gas, wont start
PostPosted: Fri Jan 13, 2017 10:49 pm
Hey i just bought a craigslist gy6 swapped ruckus (not my best idea) and im used to normal chinese scooters, im not crazy with knowledge on these things but know some basics about scooters, i have a fuel problem just fixed my spark problem and im pretty sure i have no compression cause im not getting any fuel meaning i dont have good vacuum considering i put a brand new mikuni fuel pump in and its not getting gas at all and since i had spark i tried spraying starting fluid in the air filter side of the carb and nothing,
My other question is does a 07 ruckus gas tank have a petcock? Cause when i unplugged the hose from the gas tank no gas came from the tank from simple draining, is that normal? Or could it just be clogged ? Any help would be appreciated, i spent 1400 on this thing and id like to see it run

Gas should drain through out the bottom of the tank.

Hey, lilpinny...

Based on what you said and with my own experience... When I unhook the gas tank from the fuel filter, gas doesn't come draining out of mine either.

It looks like there is a tube inside the tank that sucks it up and out and that is why it is not draining straight out (or that's what I thought), but should it just drain freely out of the tube attached to the tank, when unconnected from the fuel filter? ("Freely" as in without having to rotate the tank all around).

I am asking because my ruck has been dying when I go to mid-full throttle, and I am trying to diagnose the problem. I had cleaned the gas tank (it wasn't too bad), so I thought I could take that away from the occasion, but with your post, maybe I am wrong?

Thanks

I'm not sure what is inside the tank. I do know that when I pull the line out of the bottom of the tank gas flows out. Usually I pump as much gas out as I can before I remove the tank, then let the last bit drip out.

You might want to get some clear gas lines and put those on. Then you can how the fuel flows.

Okay, thanks. I will take another look at it.

Also... "Occassion" = "Equation" in my first post. Blaming that on my brain frying from work.

A tube is present. It loops up and back down to fuel line outlet.
