Post subject: Good numbers out of ignition system but still no spark?
PostPosted: Sun Oct 16, 2016 5:43 pm
So i now own the guam bomber(bronze bomber) built by rucksters. Its been down for 4 years so i picked it up and wanna get it running put a new 8pole stator in it becuase the old 6 pile was destroyed (someone had a long screw mounting the fan and it tore up the coils) but i spent all last night testing the ignition system due to a no spark situation. Numbers out of the stator are within requirements pulled a cdi and coil off a running ruck and getting 37.4 vac getting to the spade connectors for the coil but cant get the spark to the plug. Added a 8guage ground from engine to frame to make sure its grounded but still no spark. When i picked it up they said it slowly started to quit. Gonna get on it after work to run through the harness but anyone with suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Are you touching the plug to the frame to ground it when checking for spark?

Tested the 2 spade connectors and got 35vac but when the coil is plugged in and spark plugs against the head no spark. Borrowed a cdi and coil from a friends bike with a similar ignition setup and couldnt get it. Added heavier ground and raplaced the stator with no luck. I ended up ordering an 11pole stator and dan max harness ncy cdi and direct coil to upgrade the electrical part of the bike since it was built a long time ago and been sitting for 4 years. Just gonna rebuild and go from there.

Did you try a new plug?

I had a Spree once that I was working on, it would not start... turned out the practically brand new spark plug didn't work. I put another one in and it fired up.
