Post subject: How To - Key Screwdriver Mod
PostPosted: Wed Sep 06, 2006 6:55 pm
Inspired by others, I've been searching local hardware stores for a stubby screwdriver that I could use for a key handle. I had planned to use any stubby plastic screwdriver, heat up the blade to remove it, and reinsert the key.

However, I got lucky and scored a great reversible screwdriver. A local harware store I don't usually go to had a bucket of these for $4 each (neon green or orange). The best part was that the shaft comes out. I figured it would be tough to remove the hex insert, however when I tried to pry it out, it completely popped out and l lost it in the garage!

I cut the plastic off my extra key, cut it down to 1/2 inch (the diameter of the hole) and filled it with plastic expoxy that cures white (Quik Plastik).

*Spoon Edit - added How To to the title for reference :D

My handle is too big so I have been looking for a smaller one or a toy head. One thing about this mod is it makes a nice handy weapon!

i just got finished making my own screwdriver handle key when i went to a cheap chinese tool store and saw lighted stubby drivers with led lights facing your "work" or in our case the key hole. thought id share so others can have a cool lighted key handle too.

I decided to do a key mod for my Honda Met. I bought a Mr. Horsepower antenna ball from Amazon for about $10 after shipping.

I removed the plastic flames from the back and was able to split the plastic at it's seams on the rear feathers. There were two pegs in the back holding it together. I removed the plastic from the original key and cut two grooves in the key metal. I lined up those grooves the the pegs in the antenna ball and siliconed it in.

I found a ball link keychain that was the perfect size to shove in the hole where the antenna usually goes. The chain holds pretty tight but can be removed if needed. My other keys (house, bike lock, mailbox) can hang from the antenna ball or I can shove the keys in my pocket and the scooter key can hang out.

I like the Snap-On / Craftsman key mods but I wanted to do something different that was more in theme with my scooter. A little more old school rat rod.
