Post subject: MOD - Lock Pass-Through
PostPosted: Thu Aug 18, 2005 4:56 pm
Here's one of the first mods that I did to my Ruckus when I first got it. Basically I wanted a nice clean way of getting my cable lock through the frame. So I decided to punch a hole through the plastic deck and put a grommet in there to get a nice clean look.

This is V1.0

What you'll need:
Hole grommets at least 3/4" preferably 1" or more, make sure your cable lock will clear it. $3.00 for three.
A hole saw drill attachment appropriate for the size grommet. $4.00.
A drill.
An exacto knife.

The stock plastic deck.

Drill a 1" hole through the deck. Make sure you know what's underneath the deck so you don't drill through anything important. Use an exacto knife to shave off loose bits of plastic.

Finished product.

Total time about 15 easy going minutes...

-------------------------------------------

V2.0 improves upon V1.0 by enlarging the hole so that it's easier to work the cable lock in there. The grommet in V1.0 made for a tight fit. In V2.0 I used a plastic part that you can pick up in most hardware stores and is used to get cables trhough a desk.

What you'll need:
Exacto knife
Computer desk hole thingy...

I run my cable through the holes, in the rim, of the front tire. Nobody is cutting through the tire or the rim and if they take it off, well, they won't get very far on one wheel.

I thought about running the cable around the frame but it wouldn't take long with just a simple hacksaw to slice right through and toss my scoot into the bed of a waiting pickup.

That's my $0.02

This is such a great phreaking idea!
Here in Hawaii, people usually steal scoots with pick up trucks, so they will leave behind a wheel and just 2 people toss it in the pickup truck. But with this, they can't! unless they take the time to unbolt, but people will definately see what's going on!!

The rare double play

Here's how mines turned out, I did it about a month ago. I decided to go on the side so that I can give my U-lock a longer reach.

i use a u lock also but i stick it through the wheel. to even if they manager to cut the cable the u lock prevents them from rolling the bike. if they want it bad enough they'll get it. but i might as well make it a pain in the ass for them.

I made an update to my grommet pass through. I enlarged the hole to about 2-inches and used a rubber toilet washer that I found at OSH, $1.99.

Here's a crappy pic that I took of it in action while at work. Facing the key hole downward helps prevent access to drilling.

Post subject: CHAIN LOCK OR U LOCK?
PostPosted: Tue Aug 26, 2008 11:39 am
I'm trying to determine if a U-lock is sufficienit enough or should I be getting a chain lock? And if I get a chain lock should I get one that's 5'? or is 3.5' enough? I was looking at buying the Onguard Beast lock but I'm not sure how long I need? What do you guys suggest?

i was going to do the mod untill i notice that the hole where the coolent tank cap used to be was way easier then making another hole on the panel. its big enough to fit a fat chain or whatever lock you use. i just decided to use that hole since i replaced my coolent tank with the kijima one, and the hole was already there. just my 2 cents, only problem is its not as cool as spoonkillers.

After seeing this page, I made one with a 2" black PVC pipe adapter.
