some of them were marked much lighter than others......
BioHazard's numbers are very bold and #2's are very faint........
both are marked:

KFGH K
NE5N

According to the Reflex electrical schematic, they should interchange without a meltdown........
at least I have a spare if I fry one trying to hack it.

Any new information on this?
Looking at both wiring diagrams the two main differences I can see are the 4p vs 2p connection on the ignition switch and the BR has a timer unit connected to the coil/fuel pump. I don't see one on the Reflex diagram. Both Reflex/BR wiring diagrams are very similar(identical in many places) to the Foresight diagram. Reflex/BR have 22p while the Foresight has a 16p or 18p(can't quite tell because of diagram size). Reflex and BR have 12 connections to ICM while Foresight has 11. I only mention the Foresight because there are de-restricted units for these. Has there been any discussion on this before?

Ed,.....in my shop manual,...it refers to this unit as an ICM....Ignition Control Module.... :canuck:

By-the-way,......BIGWIZ wants one of those aftermarket 'off-road' units!

ya.......
ECU, ICM, CDI, ECM!!
The endless proprietary acronyms just add to the confusion??!! :wasted:

They all do essentially the same thing........
a rose, by any other name, would smell as sweet?

On the Foresight aftermarket unit, that unused 12th pin might be the deciding factor?
The Reflex must use a fuel pump timer of some sort....the fuel pumps look identical.

Check the part numbers at the dealer.

an update on this......
just to the rear of the igniter box (ICM) on the Big Ruckus is a CDI unit...
it looks like a standard 6 wire CDI! (4 terminals on one plug, 2 terminals on the other)

but it only uses 4 of the 6 terminals?

on investigating the wiring schematic, it is explained........
this CDI only uses half of it's capabilities......
input side.....ground and Ignition signal.
output side....ground and fuel pump.

It appears to be a full featured CDI but all it does is fire the fuel pump each time the plug fires....
it does not affect ignition timing in any way......it takes its queue from the ICM and pulses the fuel pump.

cool,.....but in the schematic diagram in the back of the Shop Manual,...there's a timer relay?....the 'pulsing' is achieved by this,....without this, the pump would just run? :prophead

YEP.....the timer relay they're talking about is the braindead CDI....
it's just smart enough for life support.

if it senses back pressure at the output, the pump doesn't run.....
other than that, each time the plug fires, it gets an "ON" pulse and goes......click!

Turns out the 16p Foresight CDI I mentioned in a previous post was for the early 98-99 model. I've since found out the later models used a 22p like the Reflex/BR. These are from later models from Japanese auctions...hmmmmm them letters look mighty familiar.

Interesting!

I just saw one for a 2000 Italian Foresight model on an Italian auction and it ended with a Q instead of an N.....

Image

if there's a hot mapped unit out there, I'll bet it will be the ones sold in Italy?

This one was over $200, salvage.....if I only I knew for sure, I'd do it!

I also saw a few of the older 98-99 units, but from 2000 forward they use the ICM module pictured above, but with several different part numbers.

I bought a Reflex harness w/CDI for $10. I'm new here but don't remember anyone taking theirs apart. So the 5 year old inside got the best of me. For ten bucks what the hell I'll take one for the team. At least I know why these thing weigh so much for being just a circuit board. They're completely injected with gel!!!... :wasted:
