Hey folks.

I've been lurking for a while now. Decided to post this first.

I bought a 2013 Ruckus a month ago. Like most people, it's the first new vehicle I've ever bought. It's also the first two wheeled machine that came equipped with a motor I've ever owned. Bicycles have been my obsession my whole life and to add a motor to mans noblest invention was not something I was ever interested in. That and I knew how addicting that throttle would be and saw my fate at 200mph. But then I saw a Ruckus at a local meet and saw a blank palate and saw something I could get in to. Anyway, it was a nice night on July 24th and I was enjoying my 114mpg commute home from my job at the bicycle shop just after dark on my bone stock ruckus. The odometer said 345 miles. I was riding down a rural-ish road when I came around a right turn and saw a deer in the left shoulder. Awww. Precious. A smaller doe, maybe 110 pounds. I was pretty much full throttle on a flat so I let up a little and the doe, who was facing away from me, turned around and looked at me. Excellent, I think. I see her, she sees me. I'm closing ground fast, and she takes two steps into the woods on the left. So I goose it. She's gone, I thought. Wrong. Out of the woods she comes, full tilt, directly into my path. I think I was probably doing about 35 and I knew it was going to be close. I grab brake, and in the second it took me to decide whether to dip left and get behind her or right to cut her off, I hit it. 30 miles an hour, direct headlight shot to the gut/pelvis area while this sucker is cruising full sprint across the street. I drilled it and spun and rolled like a stock car and hobbled away clearly all fucked up. And it honestly didn't even feel like I hit anything. I didn't fall, I didn't get squirley, I didn't skid out, nothing. It felt like hitting a pothole. A big, furry pothole that you hit with your headlights. Purely shit luck I didn't die right there. It tweaked my headlights out a little and I had to trash a pair of drawers but other than that no harm, no foul. Now I drive down that street horn blaring.

So be careful. Wildlife will fuck you up. :|

Wow. Glad you are ok.

I always look out for wildlife while riding and wonder what I would do if that surprise animal came into my life.

Ouch, good thing you're okay. I don't know how i'd react in that same scenario. I probably would have been more oblivious.

This is quite scary. Thanks for sharing your experience and it is now a warning for all.
