In Maryland you don't need a helmet and I didn't use one for the first few months. After getting a real motorcycle I decided I would never go out in less than full gear. Figured the least I can do is wear a lid on the scooter. Everyone is responsible for taking their own chances and making their own choices, but I'll never ride without a helmet again. My $0.02

I live in Florida and I don't always wear my helmet. I have even been hit by a car on my road bike(it was the lady in the trucks fault for not using her turn signals) and I still don't always wear a helmet sadly. On the Ruckus, when I have my helmet on, its harder to see out of. My field of sight is pretty much just straight ahead with my full face helmet. Sometimes a car is next to me and I wont even realize it unless I turn around. Not wearing a helmet makes it easier to see and therefor is proactive rather than reactive in a sense. It's easy to always say that you should always wear your helmet, but sometimes there's more than one way to look at things.

To each their own but to say that not wearing one to increase vision is a great enough pro is asinine to me.

I wear a full face and always will. Look at my avatar, I spray brains off the road for a living.

Would you have accepted "But I don't want to mess up my beautiful hair" a little better?

I know what you mean and it does sound stupid to not wear a helmet. But it's a choice I make. It's funny because I always wear my seat belt. I dont smoke or do/have done ANY drugs in my life. I rarely drink. I eat healthyish and exercise regularly. I always use a safety rope when rock climbing. Yet I dont always wear my helmet :/. It's a freedom I take advantage of living in Florida I suppose. :usa:

Really who gives a fuck? Illinois don't need helmets. Sometimes I do sometimes i don't. If I die without one, then I die. Why would you care? I mean nothing to the next person.
Don't force feed people with meaningless bullshit.

After riding in rain and hard shelled flying beetle season and getting stung over the
eye by a European hornet, I'm pro helmet.
It's especially more comfortable in cold weather and I haven't even touched
on the subject of flying road debris.
Added benefit, I can cross state lines into NC or Georgia from SC.
No helmet laws here unless you're under 21.
Currently the governor said that if any pending legislation comes
to her desk concerning helmets that she will veto it.
I guess that sounds good to certain political factions.

I love these post! I'm pretty passionate about being safe, it's how I earn my living. For you posters trying to justify "pros" to not wearing a helmet, all I can say is the statistics say your DEAD wrong. I have no real personal issue with people choosing not to wear a helmet. I do however think they should pay a higher insurance premium (same for not wearing seat belts) so I don't help bear the cost of keeping them alive should they have an accident and become an eggplant. Then again, might just be Gods way of keeping them from reproducing? :D

It is not a law in IL. I'd say 9 out of 10 times I wear my helmet. I have one of the half helmets. If you get into a bad accident, you are in trouble either way.

It should be a choice in my opinion. I feel the same way about seat belts. I wear mine, but I shouldn't have to.
