Hey peeps.
Planning on moving up to Ohio from the sunshine state in late august.

I know google is my friend but I also like reaching out for answers from real people.

In FL...

1) a tag is required for a ruck
2) insurance is not required
3) motorcycle license is not required, and helmet choice is yours (only if you have insurance)
4) at least 1 mirror is needed
5) (i think) a red reflector is required on your bike rear

Are there any differences for these in the state of Ohio??
Any other things a new rider to the state should know?

Got about a month and a half left until I make my way up and I'm just trying to plan the ruck stuff.

Thanks for any info you can offer

A Ruckus is considered a motorcycle in Ohio. Anything you need to be legal on a motorcycle, you need to have for a Ruckus.
So, you do need a tag.
You do need insurance on a Ruckus in Ohio.
You need either an M class license or a learner's permit (permit has to be renewed annually).
You can ride without a helmet once you have your M class license. (However, IMHO, that is not a good idea... wear your helmet!).
You must ride with a helmet while riding with a learner's permit.

Info about registration:
http://www.dmv.org/oh-ohio/other-types.php
http://www.dmv.org/oh-ohio/motorcycle-registration.php

Info about getting a permit and license:
http://www.dmv.org/oh-ohio/motorcycle-license.php

If you don't have your license yet, then I highly recommend the rider safety course. If you are near Columbus, then I can tell you where I took mine.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Emma! that helps a lot. I already have a helmet, insurance but I'll eventually have to swap plates to an ohio plate so I meet those reqs. I was mainly thinking about the insurance as since some of the year isn't rideable, having insurance seems like a waste.

I think the license process is easier here in FL, so I will try to make arrangements to get an endorsement over here.

Off-topic, but what about tinted windows on cars? yay or ney in OH?

No significant tint allowed on front driver/passenger windows (I can't remember the percent allowed, but it's pretty light). I had a car that had tinted windows and I was never stopped for it. Just don't give them a reason to stop you.

I have my insurance switched to "in storage" mode during winter months. It reduces the cost. Just don't ride it until you change it back to active mode again.

My Ruck is going to be done within a week. I'd love to go riding with you folks once it's running.

My name is Corey, im from columbus, ohio and just recently picked up at 2014 Black Honda Grom. I come from the Ruckus world, have owned two previous to this Grom. I wanted to switch it up and really like the features of the grom, so pulled the trigger and here i am! It has pro taper bars, lowered two inches in the front, composimo 6.5 rear lowering link (too low for my liking, ordered a 2.5. on the way) custom exhaust, led tail light, composimo stretch kit, etc etc.

Rode about 70 miles Sunday evening. Nothing planned just jumped on the Ruck and took off.
My wife and son couldn't go so it was a solo ride.
Started in the Dublin area, rode south of Darbydale Oh and back to Dublin.
Stopped at a few metro parks along the way. Similar to a ride we did last summer with Darthemma.

Hope to ride downtown Columbus in the next few weeks. It's a fun ride!
I will let you guys know when we go......anyone is welcome to join us!
Keep in mind we are GET engines so it will be at a slow pace.

One pic from Sunday.
