Post subject: The RustyCage Seattle to San Diego Dream Ride
PostPosted: Sun Feb 10, 2013 12:22 pm
So I have been dreaming of a long distance journey somewhere on my SerenGETti. I found that its possible to ruck from Seattle to San Diego (1255 miles) for about $80 in gas. I'm ALL IN. :banger:
So I had my green side boxes, but needed more space. So now, considering GrapeStreetGarage doesn't make frame extensions anymore (let alone respond to email or PMs) I decided to make my own. It had to be done if I want more storage space.

Image

I also relocated my gas tank, and used an Elite80 tank since it was more narrow and already painted gloss black :)

So with the tank moved and the ruck stretched out another 7.5" I can start designing my center storage box.

The mad scientist is scheming insane possibilities.....

So I still wanted a rear sissybar for strapn bedroll and sleepnbag and other goodies, plus still serving as a backrest. So I started lookin at pipe and my flatbar and then I saw it.....my seat frame.

So could it?..........maybe?..........possibly?
Hmmmmmmm

Yeah, and I found a mount. Just like my ex girlfriend, there's a hole not being used.

So measure, chop, drill, weld, grind, sand, and check.

So strap her down with a couple hose clamps and a 10mm bolt, and presto.

Yeah, I'm not gonna win any awards for how cool it looks, but functionality is my main concern. And ill probably still GET at least 70mpg all geared down.

Its really comfortable when I am wearing my backpack full of my clothes. The backrest with my hiking chair is perfect. I won't know just how perfect until I do 100+ mile ride. But mockup was really cozy and encouraging :)
