Post subject: Any input for a possible 2003 reflex purchase?
PostPosted: Sun Oct 02, 2016 1:14 pm
Looked at one from craigslist, over all pretty nice shape except for a couple of scratches on the left side from the kick stand slipping. 17k miles, New front tire, battery was replaced in april, new belt and weights installed at 12k miles. Has and extended windshield, extra storage compartment on the back, maybe a GPS. He's asking $1650

Any input would be helpful

Like most Honda's they are pretty bullet proof.
They share the same basic engine as the Big Ruckus.

Like any scoot or m/c purchase, make sure you get a clean title, then go through it when you get home and make sure its safe to ride.
Check NADA site for values, but it sounds about right.

I would be looking at it, as the price sounds fair.
I would need to ride it a few miles to say if I'd offer them that price for it.

Well I got it for $1500 ( I think the guy's wife was on him to sell it)

Needs a nicer exhaust though, it's quieter than the met and the grom.

That seems like a reasonable price. Nicer exhaust? If the chrome looking muffler guard
is scratched up, then that part is replaceable and wouldn't mean you would need to get a
whole new muffler. If the main barrel of it or where it mounts to the swingarm is rusty,
(as many often are) wire brush as much of the rust off, maybe a little bit of sanding to
reduce rough spots, make sure there is no dirt or oil on it and hit it with a couple coats
of hi-temp spray paint like that used for BBQ grills. Then run it through at least two full
heating/cooling cycles. (hot then let it cool all the way down to near ambient) After that,
take it off and try buffing it some with terry cloth rags to turn the matte finish to more of
a satin finish. No need to get too crazy with it; you just want to get a little bit of a satin
sheen going like it looks when newer. Sand blasting it could be done too but that is more
work than it would be worth since it would just get rusty again. Or just skip the steps to
remove /buff/replace and leave it with the matte finish. Cheap and easy enough to do as
many times as needed during your ownership.

Hey, if you happen to dig into it, im trying to get an understanding of all the hoses that hookup to the carb.
Could you take some pics?

I bought a used one to swap and the carb was taken off. I looked in the service manual but i dont have a clear path shown.
