Post subject: Morphous Stereo? Any ideas on best way to do it?
PostPosted: Sun Jul 28, 2013 1:29 pm
I have had a friend kindly offer, as my birthday present, to pay for me to buy and install a stereo on my 2007 Yamaha Morphous. I was thinking of something that is hard to steal so maybe something where only the speakers and the amp is installed and I can have an MP3 player that streams the music to a receiver? I prefer vinyl, but I don't see how I can easily move around my record collection on the Morphous let alone change discs while riding. And think of the damage to the needle and the discs every time I hit a bump. Just kidding. Seriously, I am clueless about how to go about doing this in a cost-effective manner. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Thanks and happy riding. Oh and I also have a Zuma 125. Something that I could completely remove and take from bike to bike would be awesome, but I think that would come with a serious quality hit. Thanks everyone!

Not sure this is the best way, but some good info here anyway:

You can do this: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_700502ML6W ... ml?tp=3384

Which is how Special Ops did it, I think, and the route I will be going. Weather resistant, plugs direct into iPod, easy controls that you can mount to steering, and an amp, all in one set up. Plus these one have cool blue LED's!!! :highfive:

Or you can go Japan style!

http://japan.webike.net/products/1242574.html

A bit pricey though.

These are both great suggestions. Any ideas on best place to mount the speakers? I know some people mount them on the handlebars, but wouldn't they be gone in the morning? I live in Washington DC and there is a pretty healthy crime rate :) what with all these politicians around....

I was gonna place two in the front like in this image
Image
As well as two in the rear quarter panel that faces forward for a full surround sound experience.

As far as not getting them stolen, you can wire a small alarm set up if you need. At the end of the day, if someone wants your shit, they're gonna most likely end up with it. I just try and be smart about where and when I leave my bikes, and they're always garaged at night locked up nice and tight.

Cheers,

:highfive:

I have the kicker system and I absolutely love it. It does take some tweeking to get the most out of it. I had placed them in the same place as the pic above, now the caveat is you wont be able to hear the music at freeway speeds. I was looking at the pod option but to me they look cheesy, sure directionally they would be more suited for listening purposes. Make sure you get the 2ohm speakers not the 4ohm, I have not added the sub yet.

To many projects going on right now so this is an addition for later.

I've used the main unit in the past and it has decent FM reception and the TF slot works fine or you can plug an MP3 in.
Just not enough power output so the Boss 400 watt should solve that issue.
Add a couple nicer larger speakers and I think it would be good to go and all for under a 100 bucks.

How are you gonna mount those bad boys? I'm trying to figure out how those are gonna mount clean on the morph.

The speakers are of a mirror mount type and should fit the Morphous.

I'm actually thinking of using this set up on my C3. With the addition of a couple extra 4-6" speakers it should do the job.

Do what I did, skip the stereo and build a system into your helmet.
I found a neat WWII style helmet that had foam ear pads that already had spaces built into them for headphones.
I took an old set of home audio headphones and broke them apart, hot glued the speaker elements into the foam pads, (they removed via some velcro) .
I then soldered an 1/8" plug wire that I scavanged from a cheap pair of mini headphones, snaked the the wires through the lining and then soldered the wires to the headphone elements.
The postage stamp sized iPod (mini shuffle) velcros to the back of my helmet.
I made this rig right before heading out cross country on my Silverwing years ago and it still sounds great !
