Post subject: reinforcing the brake light connection on an NCY lever
PostPosted: Tue Nov 15, 2016 9:37 am
Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on how to reinforce the brake light switch spade connectors that plug into the NCY brake lever.

Image

Those connections have a tendency to come loose when riding. I thought about taping them, but that would just wrap around the connection and not hold it in place.

I guess I could solder it on but is there some other kind of goo I could put on there to make that connection permanent?

Thanks!

Have you tried crimping the connectors a little more? You may also try a zip tie to your throttle cable.

I'm thinking I'll try both of those suggestions... I'll crimp it a little tighter and shrink tube it. That connection looks way to fragile as it is. When I installed it I thought I must be missing a part or something that goes over that connection but nope.

thanks

I'm surprised its not shorting out! In the photo it doesn't look like there's much separating the two terminals, and no insulation.

it's only been on the road for not even 30 mins post swap when the plugs fell out... I'm more worried about the connection breaking off from the lever and having to go source another lever just for the switch.

yeah... it's a pretty non-insulated connection. I would have thought there would be a cover or something.

My suggestion would be to ditch the connectors and solder the wires to the prongs and heat shrink over them.
