I have a stock GET with the BR exhaust (open header and briggs muffler) and a UNI filter with a 90 degree elbow into the carb. The bike will die when I am below 2500 rpm. The slightest turn counterclockwise on the idle speed screw will kill the engine. Turning the pilot screw clockwise or counterclockwise seems to have no effect. I am using a 38 pilot jet and an 82 main jet. I cant get the bike to even idle so I can go out and test the main jet. Cant get out of the garage its either lurching forward at too high of an RPM or it dies. I sprayed carb cleaner all over and I dont think I have an air leak but I could be wrong. Do I need a larger jet all together? Longer snorkel?

Heres how it sits right now. I went down a jet size to 35 and ran with it. The spark plug is light brown. But I am going to go through a tank of gas and see what happens.

Now my issue is that the bike is not idling until it gets warm. I have to babysit the throttle for about 6-10 minutes then its fine. I also have to blip the throttle to get it start up so I posted both of these questions on the facebook page and a member there said I should check the valves. The intake valve was about 0.003 out of spec I need to get a smaller shim but the exhaust valve seemed to be alright. Could the intake valve being out of spec cause the bike to not idle until warm AND having to blip the throttle be caused by just the intake valve being out of spec?

Might want to read through this: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=63245&hilit=hard+starting

I assume you measured in inches? Tolerance in inches is .004 +/- .001, so being too tight by .003 could definitely cause your symptoms. First time I checked mine, I had pretty much zero clearance on the intake.

The smaller 2.150 shim totally fixed most of issues other than fine tuning the carb jetting I never would have thought to search for hard starting I thought all my jets were messed up. Thanks for the tip!
