Got this last month. Really clean for the age paint still really nice. Not showroom condition but for 42 years old its fine by me. Has 84,000 miles on the odo. I cant believe it has that many, from all the ones I see for sale they are usually low mileage. If the miles are real its really held up nicely.
It came with a 125cc lifan engine and the pipe you see. Carb really wasnt tuned well but it ran. I think the PO had if for 3 months. I know they had the original engine so I think they swapped in the lifan. They did not have the stock engine when I got the bike. I would of taken that too.
So when I got it the headlight was held on with tape. I ordered a new ring for that. Chainguard was missing. I got a used old one on ebay just to match the look of the bike.
I added the underseat grab bar, centerstand, new seat with the honda stencil I painted on the back. Found a seat latch on ebay so now my seat can latch shut. Still has the original tools and bag under the seat.
I got new tires that look like stock. Someone painted the wheels silver not the original paint. Some of the aluminum like on the shocks, or handlebar mounts were aged and nasty looking so I scuffed up with abrasive pads and oil. Just gave it a more even old finish took out any spots.
The rust on the body im leaving. Most of the surface rust on the bars and bolts ive buffed out. Funny its still chrome, or nickel whatever the metal finish is under the rust. So it all shines back up.
From when I got it I had issues with the fuel flow. At first thought it was the carb but when I ran out of gas by my house, with a full tank it ended up being the hack job under the tank. Since it has reserve and normal fuel it has 2 lines, which was T'd and the lines were kinked and pinched.
I ended up only using 1 line from the lower nipple so if I run out of gas I have no reserve. Also added clear blue lines because when I get too low on fuel I can see a ton of bubbles in the line it lets me know im running super low. Which ive had happen a few times at the house.
I recently put in a 140cc engine and spent some time tuning the 2 carbs I had on it. Found the mikuni carb ran better then the keihin even though they are the same size the mikuni is different enough to feel a difference.
Im using stock rear sprocket but a 17 tooth front. The new engine came with a 16 and that was better then the 14? the lifan came with. But the 17 really made a difference in lowering the rpm's almost feels like a real motorcycle now if only I had 5th gear!!!!
I havent done top speed but my speedo reads to 50 mph and I stop there. I have no use for max speed anyways not a concern for me what max is. Its scary enough at 50 with a spring suspension trying to hand onto narrow bars on a slippery seat.
I treat it like a 50cc ruckus pick my roads where I want to go that way, but I can venture out on little faster roads too and climb hills much faster which is nice.
You get a ton of looks and everyone wants to talk to you at stop lights about it.
I have no other plans but for installing a oil cooler which is coming next week. Ive been monitoring the oil temps and they have me worried. Im around 250F well over the protection level of normal motor oil. With such a small amount of oil too its not going to last too long.
When I still had the lifan I changed to motul 5100 or something. It protected little under 250 which was better then normal oil.
But with the new engine I dont want to use synthetic until at least 600 miles so at least with the cooler hopefully it will be lower. I will see.
