Post subject: Mount speedo in battery box? Or new custom fab speedo mount?
PostPosted: Wed Sep 07, 2011 8:50 am
Im changing to lower handlebars from my stock ones and I want to mount the speedometer assembly in the battery box. I know this is commonly done, can someone show me how to do it? Or give me a link to a previous thread where someone already asked this?

Thanks!!

Don't do it. It looks cool but you gotta cut up the best part of your bike and it's a bitch to get on and off. If your modding your gonna take that box off a thousand times. Just a heads up.

yeah, its not something worth doing. once done youll slap yourself and wish you didnt do it, then youll spend 50 to 100 bucks on getting a new BB.

Like everyone else said....don't freakin' do it. I hate mine with a passion!!

Come up with something creative. This winter, I'm gonna try to mount mine to the right
side fork.

Im gonna go ahead and take everyones recommendation and stay away from putting it inside the battery box. Already looking for speedo brackets to mount to the handlebars. If anyone has any recommendations for brackets, lemme know.

Thanks again for everyones help!

....have to agree.. Hated having mine in there as well.. Went through 3 speedo cables also - they would always snap. PITA to get the box off and on - many hours spent cursing :pissed:

That's funny,

Asides from taking it on and off, i never had a problem

I also never took it off so i didn't mind it much. I can see where eyvoenre is coming from though.

I rarely take my box off anymore... well, not as much as I used too. I've been considering this for a while. I'm so sick of the zip tie look.

Can anyone post images of what they've done to mount their speedometer outside of the battery box?

Thanks!
Boban

I painted mine and dropped it and the turn signal indicator into the bbox. I love it there. Looks great. Taking it off is a pain in the ace, but I thought it was worth it.

Check Sig for detailed pics if needed.

There are at least two threads in the "how to" section if you really want to do it..... everyone that does ends up regretting it later on!!! :)
