Post subject: Rear rim off center??
PostPosted: Thu Oct 17, 2013 7:08 pm
So the other day I was running the scoot in the center stand. I had a close look at the rear tire as it was spinning. I noticed the tire was out of round. Ok then, new tires in the spring. Then I looked a bit closer and it looks to me the rear rims center hole where the axel goes through is drilled off center?? Has anyone seen this before? Can I buy a new rim? Could this be repaired at a special wheel repair shop?

Thanks.

It goes up and down. You can see the vibration carry through to the muffler.

I'll try to take a small video and post it so you guys can see what I mean.

Thanks

Probably normal. I chased the same problem for a while, dynabeads, new tire, balance etc, and it never really changed the bounce. I did a video too and when i get my photo bucket up, I'l show it.

Here is the only video I took of it before I tried to do anything and its not very good quality.
I put the dyna beads in and it really didn't change the hopping look. In reality, I've never noticed anything while I've ridden it, that's why when the dyna beads didn't change anything,
I didn't really worry about it. In fact, I'm not sure tha I even checked this again after the last rear tire was installed.

To the best of my knowledge, just about any scoot out there does this....both my Big Rucks did,....i honestly dont know if my 600 does that or not, as i dont have a center stand on it.

Hello all,

Ok I made two quick videos and posted then to YouTube.

http://youtu.be/3frNI_Yt5rY

And

http://youtu.be/cBTUPSYm7eM

So after having a second close look this is what I can see and figure...yes, the centre hub hole is milled off centre.......sort of......looking close the hole is off centre to the spokes of the rim and for most of the rim for that matter. However looking closer at the second video the tire is mounted evenly around the bead portion of the rim and the tire doesn't spin off centre like the hub hole does..So what I then is the hub hole is milled according to where the tire would seat on the rim..and the rest of the rim doesn't really matter but I'll bet its way out of balance. I hope that makes sense..So I don't think I have much of a problem except for a small flat spot on the tire and an unbalanced rim and tire...but I have to say it looks bad. I does vibrate some at lower speeds but as it spins faster it smooths out..
