2000 miles? , that's 3200 km's?

Are you kidding?

My SH has done now 11000 km's on its first original belt and is still well within specs...

To confirm what you already know; generally your best off with the original belt although it may/will be more expensive then after market kevlar-hightech-space age tech hallelujah belts.
To be more specific: usually you will the non-original belts will give worse performance.
Huh?, and what about the kevlar and such?

If you are able to improve hp with more then 25% then you may want to start looking a these, if not they only make performance worse.
All that traction in the belt is basically friction, friction which has to be overcome by the engine, in standard config you may loose up to 3 HP in the belt, with a after market belt this will be even higher and if you start fiddling with the counter spring (use a stiffer one) it will be definitely even more...

The trick is to use a belt with moderate friction and a weak counter spring so you are at the edge of having a slipping belt, thats when you loose as little power as possible.
Usually the original design is such that there is a good balance between belt-slip/wear and friction loss and there is no easy logical way to find the sweet spot, to much friction will reduce performance and increase wear due to the higher operating temperature and to little friction the belt will slip and performance is lost and wear will increase because of the slipping.
Somewhere in between these two is the ideal....

slipping belt will actually SIGNIFICANTLY raise belt temps . as well as all trans components.
