Hey everyone, recently we have been receiving a lot of questions regarding our hubs and the cost of it. So instead of having people frequently asking me; I have decided to post a thread up to inform everyone about it. About a year ago, I have made hubs by cutting rims in favor for close friends who really wanted them, even after I have informed them that it was not a safe thing to do. During cutting and machining, I would find lots of air pockets and such in the casting. The natural process of making full cast aluminum rim is a completely different process compared to making just the cast aluminum hubs alone, such as Daytona hub, Sym hub, etc. The materials used in making rims are softer, more mixed casting (die casting, mold casting, sand casting etc), and the casting is very loosely compacted (low pressure casting). As many of you have seen or heard that the stock GY6 rims are quiet easy to get bent. Most stock cast aluminum wheel from China that I have seen are not that great in quality. Not all cast aluminum rims from over seas are the same because of different manufactures, the prices that the buyers are willing to spend, different procedures from the manufactures, etc. When cutting a rim and machining it into a hub, you’re going to apply a lot of stress and weight into a small surface area with 4 bolts within that same face of the area. The loads from the 4 bolts are completely different from the load of the original spoke of the wheel. The face of the hub isn’t thick enough to accommodate that entire load in one area. Not to mention you have no idea what lies beneath the surface of the cut hub (bad casting with lots of air pockets, etc). The threading for the bolts itself isn’t strong enough to handle the weight and load that will be applied when riding. So when people kept on asking me to make and sell hubs I did not want to use the cut rim approach to make the hubs. I rather go the extra step and make the hubs out of a block of pure T6061 aluminum and then put it into production; this is why it has taken so long for the hubs to be released. All of our hub was professionally hand made with appropriate steel brake lining for the brake shoes contacting surface. I hope I answered most of the questions.
