Post subject: Looking for information on Gy6 Short swap
PostPosted: Sat Feb 27, 2016 10:07 pm
Hey all

Im looking into purchasing a ruckus and doing a GY6 short swap. I want to keep the looks as similar to the stock ruckus as possible.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Most, if not all, of the guides are for the long case. Also, Im very interested in anyone who may sell a premade kit to do it all in one.

Cheers

As far as swapping a gy6 goes, there's no difference in long and short case. Most people go with a long case in order to be able to run larger wheels. Kinda confused by your question

Yep, like he said a short case and a long case are exactly the same. Only difference is swing arm length obviously, and the ability to only run smaller wheels. I believe drowsports sells a "kit".

Long case with 8" fat rear tire

Long case with 7" fat rear tire

Note**that is not EVERYthing you need. Just mostly everything.

In my opinion, it's cheaper to make the parts list of things you need, and buy them separately. I spent $1200 solely on my swap. Some people do it cheaper, some go all out with $4k +

Basically what I dont want my ruckus to look like is this :

You will just need to mount the gy6 further in towards where the stock GET motor mounts. Very limited mounting options for the "no stretch" look. Check out Teamturtleruck's ride on here

Edit: Here ya go...

The picture you want your ruck to look like, has a 12" rim. I'm about 90% sure. Still need a long case motor for that. Anyway, yes you will need to tuck your engine way up in there, as close to the original mounting location as possible. Sweet look though, I like both the stretched and non-stretched.

Is there anyone that sells a kit specifically for a non-stretch look?

You'll have to do a weld on mount. Check out mojo-customs.com

My brother now owns this bike..

It is a custom rear frame made in very small numbers by a guy called "superuck". it is a 12x7 rear rim, and is a long case.
A short case WILL NOT help keep it short. The problem is the engine offset from a fatty. If you want it short, you'll need to stay skinny tire.
