Post subject: Tuning Question: GY6 w/ Keihin PE24 ***BOGS DOWN at 35mph***
PostPosted: Tue Sep 06, 2011 11:34 am
I was hoping someone can tell me on how to fix my scoot.

This is the symptom:
At first it was bogging down at 20mph and the carb was spitting a lot of fuel. So I took the carb apart and adjusted the float.
The fuel overflow seemed to have stopped and it runs a little better but still bogs down at 35~40mph which is also the max speed at the moment. I have not messed with the jets so everything is stock (MAIN-#115, SLOW=#52). It was running fine when I had the stock gy6 carb so I think it's just the carb.

Please note, that everything (Gy6, Carb) is pretty much new.

Sounds like you need to re-jet.
A #52 seems HUGE for a slow jet.

Any suggestions for the jet size (main/slow)?

I run a #110 main and #40 slow jet and it seems to be just about right. Still tuning myself.
Similar setup to yours, actually.

GY6 155cc with PE28(it came with the ruck and I believe it's a PE28 because it's measured 28mm inner diameter on the motor side outlet) I had 115 main and 50 slow, it was running very rich... I rejetted with 112 main and 42 slow first, it started up and ran better however it was still on the rich side so I put in 38 slow and it started right up... havent had a chance to test run it cuz my throttle cable got snapped... :headbashing: :headbashing: :headbashing:

Do you guys know if the Jets (Main/Slow) from the stock Gy6 carb is compatible with the Keihin PE24?

Get starter fluid from autozone or any auto parts store and spray a little in the intake of the carb while you try to start it. This will start the engine and create a vacuum to pull the fuel into the carb and you won't have to use the starter fluid after that. Don't hold it an inch from the intake and spray, get a foot or so away and spray it so it's not too much. It may take a few times but it'll work.
