Man, THANKS for letting me know that! It drove me crazy thinking that little "c" clip was holding that sucker in.....
I thought the raised area floated in the bearing area and the c clip held it in....... So it's not really possible for that sucker to come out that way....
Sweet!
Now to just reinforce the case.
So what does the "relief" cut help? Instead of a 90 degree corner, it is a rounded cut so the crack cannot start? I might do this as well.
Here's what we did tonight:
http://picasaweb.google.com/jp6940/Toys?feat=directlink
(last few pics)
We spent a few hours reinforcing/thinking/cutting metal. I think it will work pretty well.
Keep in mind it's R O U G H. I need a lot of sanding/grinding/clean-up but you should get the idea of where we were heading....

Don't sweat the C-clip too hard. For many years Jeep Wrangler axles were only held in by a C-clip at the spider gears in the center differential. If you snapped an axle on the trail your tire and axle assembly would just walk right out of your axle tube. Talk about scary!

I honestly don't think you will have a problem with the case cover in tact. The people who had the problems removed the case cover and lost the structural integrity=broken cases!
I just wanted to be safe!

This is very good info. Now, I'm not running a cvt cover, but do have the "Ankelbitter"cvt plate. It's 1/4 thick aluminum. I don't know if it will help so I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on the swing arm.

this does nothing .. mine cracked with the anklebiter ..

Unless you plan on running without some sort of CVT cover you should be fine. That cover is an integral part of the swing arm removing it will cause your swing arm to not be as strong.

Replace it with one of the many options on the market may or may not cause it to crack, the one that are flat pieces with just holes for the variator and clutch should be fine. The ones that are all cut up with designs and shit I'd be iffy on though.

So now that I'm almost done my gy6 and paranoid, can we get a count of how many people this has actually happened to? Not to say we are or aren't safe, I'm gonna check my shit DAILY!

Would there be any way of reinforcing that right angle to stop or slow the shear force apart from just relying on the CVT? Just seems like a really poor engineering choice, like they started the rip for us. :?

Also, anybody ever added a right swing arm to a fatty conversion? Sorry, new guy
