and if it does push it far enough you will see crazy wear on the face and variator

Crazy wear? :dubious: Dont understand how getting the belt to go all the way up the pulleys will cause crazy wear on the face and variator.

To each is own. Just sharing my work.

have you encountered this? Bc you said chances are the rollers can push the variator that far enough

Sliders so have a little more lift than rollers. Wonder if its enough to make the variator contact the DF.

Just a heads up to anyone shaving a driveface. Once you start putting the kickstart washer back on and the splines stick out past the washer you need to chamfer the flat washer. If you don't you will smash the end of the splines when you tighten it and lock the drive face on the crank. It can be fixed but its a pain in the ass.

I was doing some variator tuning these past two days and noticed the malossi drive boss is 1/16" shorter than my polini. Switched the two out and managed to clear 50mph as opposed to 44 top speed. Accel suffers but going to try and play with weights to see if I can remedy this. Have to give my buddy's malossi back so gonna shave the boss a little and the drive face a little too to find the sweet spot.

ok so the dio zx drive boss is already .5mm shorter than the stock ruck boss.

interesting. and it just goes right in without mods? would you have to add a washer in there somewhere?

thats cause your belts a .5mm wider. they sell this lightened drive face for the dio by phongeer but i dont know if itd be high enough for your variator. do you guys have lightened drive face pulleys?

I hope this is the correct thread to bring this up (and not get directed to the belt thread.)

I have had an itch to shave my drive face for a few days now.

I've finally got my intake and jetting dialed in and I am just hating my top speed being mechanically limited to 43....44...evey now and then...hit 45 twice when feathering the throttle. I am thinking that I may be running out of belt. I am using a Polini belt, Polini variator, and (3)5.3g/(3)5.0g Dr Pulley sliders. Belt and sliders have about 700mi worth of wear.

(Please don't suggest a CDI. I have a new Posh in the box that I do not plan on installing yet. Not till I have finished optimizing my set up for my ride to work commute.)

As I recall from previous use, the Daytona belt seems to be slightly longer than the Polini, and was really kind of shitty with an all stock
intake and exhaust.

So, I suppose the question should be:

Would any of yall having success with the drive face shave (mild .5-1.0mm) recommend or have tried using a longer belt first before shaving the drive face ? It doesn't make sense how the same size belt could travel farther up the driven faces unless it is worn/stretched.

Why would you have to feather the throttle to hit 45? Is it because of the rev limiter? If so, wouldn't that make you electronically limited?

At a stready WOT, limiter kicks in 8800-8900, at least thats when the tach goes bezerk and I can hear the ignition being retarded through exhaust notes. I have been able to fool the computer, if you will, in to revving higher by WOT, letting off, WOT, letting off and am seeing 9120 rpms on tach. That is what I mean by feathering the throttle.

I do believe it is a mechanical limitation as 43/44 is achieved around 8250/8300. Just experienced it again on way to work this AM. Just under WOT, 8300/8400rpm at 43mph. Stays there up to limiter and even WOT bombed some down grades. Staying at 43mph.

EDIT- Having some scooter parts in my locker at work, I found a Daytona belt. I believe it its the one I used from last year. If I recall correctly, I only put 250ish miles on it before I got another Polini belt. I am going to throw it on sometime in the next week(s) and answer my own question. Will post results here to share.

I have gained a consistent 2mph more with this shave. Now at 45 instead of 43 on flat straight road, or on lightly rolling terrain. :D :D :D Occasionally getting the 46, 47, once 48. Hits 47 consistently on a downgrade or with wind at back.
