How many Rucks have NOS, how many have a 450cc engine, and how many have chain drive? Answer: NONE.
I'm excited to see this happen, and all on one scoot. _________________ My Flickr photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/sanjuro62/

I'm with you. So far it's 7 pages of how to take apart a Ruckus with a few pictures of a custom wheel mount.
Sorry about your Wheaties. |

I thought you said that you were going to re-weld a tab back on to replace the one you ground off, which made me think that you were planning on using the stock drum.
I know you have the thought out light-years ahead of me though, so don't pay any attention to my rantings, haha!
Thanks for keeping us updated. I look forward to seeing this come together. _________________

you've been around this forum how long and all you've done is cut your front frame and made some tabs for your front wheel?
|
Well, thanks for your vote of confidence... and who cares how long i've been on this forum? Is that suddenly the measure of who i am? I've been doing this fabrication stuff for a little longer than i've been on TR by the way.
Its really unfortunate that projects like this have to start out with something so simple as diassembling the frame. It'd be really sweet if i could just start with the finished product, and that way it'd save a lot of work, and people wouldn't have to watch something so mundane as the disassembly of a stock Ruck. Sorry to bore all you experts out there with all this trivial shit. But obviously people enjoy watching it happen... <shrug>
Anyway, i'm not looking to get into a pissing match or generate enemies or anything... i sincerely hope that one day (maybe at a CON?) that we can all actually meet, shake hands, then sit down, have some drinks, and dream up more crazy shit to do

| now, all someone has to do is explain what he wants to do and people seem to jump all over it. |
However, i'm doing more than simply "Talking about it"....
loopy: Oops, sorry, that is because i am planning on running that setup on my other stock ruck in the front... sorry if i made it a bit confusing there... _________________ John.W

2 threads needed! One for this build and one for other "works".
Pomeruck lives damn near Missouri, and our motto is "The Show-Me State". Soooo... We like to be shown stuff, not told stuff.
So Just follow through. That's all you have to do.
I personally know you are going to follow through with your plans.
Cuz If TC says so, thats good enough for me.
So Keep on Keepin on... and take the interwebz threadings with a grain of salt as big as your modem.
I doubt Pome or IHAR means any disrespect. They have earned the right to be skeptical though. They are OG's in these waters.
Nutshell: Don't be defensive, just keep building. |

People shouldn't get their panties in a bunch now... all builds like this start out with disassembly right?? The fact that you have a custom shop inspires people with confidence that you can pull this off and the fact that you take it seriously can be seen in your documentation and pictures (also, who would rip into an aluminum frame like that if they weren't confident they could make something better out of it).
I'm kind of disappointed to see some people here being negative when so far there hasn't been a reason to be like that.. just wait for the result and then you can say if it sucks or not, right? _________________ Second big Zoomer ride in the Netherlands, check the video here

Springer forks? eeeewww...
3rd grade? man, i wasn't even alive in 3rd grade... Chuck Norris and the Techno Viking were in the midst of a battle, and they both swung at each other at exactly the same time... the punches both connected simultaniously... the resulting rip in the spacetime continuum thrust me into existance sometime around the 12th grade.... it was totally sweet! _________________ John.W

Ok, so today was the day to work on the rear swingarm platform/chassis mount, which will also serve as the mounting point for several other items on this little scooter. Because it will be under a wide variety of stresses, it needs to pretty much be the most beefy portion of the scooter. So, i decided to build it out of 1/4" thick steel. Mounted on the underside of it will be the point where the rear swingarm, which holds everything, hinges on.
So, i first had to design and build the plate, which was relatively easy... just measure out, and place the 4 mount holes as precise as possible on a large piece of steel.
I also drew some marks in it, since i am planning on trimming it up a tad... mostly freehand stuff, just to envision what it would look like... Oh, and don't mind the blue "paint" everywhere... that is the 'Dychem' spray used to locat the bolt centers in the plate, and also the edges of where the Ruckus frame meet the steel, so that i can trim to that edge.
Next up, were the actual swing arm mounting points. For this, i took some rectangle tubing, measured the angles, and cut the tubing so that it would extend from the rear of the chassis, straight back. Then, i took a couple of bearing seats, and cut a nice precise hole in both peices, and inserted the bearing seat, and welded it in. Unfortunately i got so into doing what i was doing, i forgot to pick up my camera until i was at this point:
Then, it was time to close in the back, and smooth everything out..
And then make another one identical to it
Once i had both of them, i measured 20 times, and tack-welded once ... got them in perfect alignment and height on the plate...
So then i had to cut the plate down, and make it look halfway decent..
So, thats where we're at with all of this for now... _________________ John.W
