ratt: ah, someone WAS paying attention haha! Yea, its for my Father, but as far as myself and my shop is concerned, this is a 'customer project'... just because he is family makes no difference in how we're treating/billing/working with this project. Thanks for the compliments though wait till the -real- stuff starts happening with this scoot
ruck_off: hopefully it will indeed be 'epic'... hahah!
Doc: ROFLMFAO! thanks! _________________ John.W

As per his request/insistance, yes. My shop IS a business afterall, and my Father understands/respects that. _________________ John.W

Thanks Sanj... hopefully it'll make #1 here very very shortly
Ok, back to the fun stuff
So not much got done on the Ruck today... i spent most of the day organizing videos and processing them after my 500+ mile racing road trip i took this last weekend...
However, i DID finish what i was working on yesterday, and didn't want to show... but now i'm going to show it, since i decided that it is such a small item anyway.... and i think it is too bad-ass to not show.
Yes, i will be making them to sell, but i want to FULLY test this out before any of them go out the door to anyone (for hopefully obvious reasons). Also, when i do make the ones for sale, they will all be laser cut pieces, welded together... whereas this is just hand-cut pieces... took too long... lol!
The item?????
A front end lowering kit for stock Ruckus Forks... this requires no disassembly of the forks. The only thing you have to do, is cut off the tab for the stock front drum brake. These will have a tab on them that replaces that one. Alternatively, you could buy one right-side fork instead of cutting off the tab, and use it on the left.
I started out with some steel tubing...
Then, i trimmed off the drum brake tab so the tube could slide over it
Then, i cut the triangles that will be the new mount for the front wheel, and tac-welded it to the tube for a test fit...
Then, before i left last night, i did a real fast mock-up to get a basic layout of how all of this might look...
Then this afternoon, i finally got finished up with the front end brackets, and also i flipped them over so it wouldn't lower the front by as much... i think it looks better, and at full compression, the tire clears the cast fork piece...
I also decided that i'm going to mount reflectors or blinkers in the lower shock mounting holes, so that it doesn't look like it is just hanging down there by itself
So, anyone interested in a set of drop-fork collars? _________________ John.W

Holy crap. Das da illest shit yo!!!
But why bother doing all that work on the stock fork? After replacing my rear shock I've discovered how much the factory forks blow, and would LOVE some dropped aftermarket (Dio?) forks. |

They would of course have to make it crappy looking and put a 49cc 4stroke in it before selling it in North America. |

Thunder: yea, i thought about it, but i do kinda like the idea of moutning turn signals or reflectors down there... lol! but yea, if it comes to it, i'll just lop them off... i agree that it'd look cleaner.
lungfish: theres no time like the present to learn how to weld if it is something that you are truly interested in
Sanj: thanks I love to weld.
BigEasy: Thanks! When you do the kind of work i do on peoples cars (read: their babies), you kinda HAVE to be.
ratt: well, i thought about buying a set of forks, and being done with it, but part of me also wants to do something different if i can... so rather than just open the catalog and point at what i want, i'm making it... i may even do more work to the forks, like maybe open them up, and do whatever i need to do to make them work even better.
Kamikaze: we'll see about CON... i've been watching the threads on it, but the timeframe isn't going to work with this project... its less than a month away, and this project isn't likely going to be completed in that short of a timeframe... although you never know i'm working on it every day, and its just a little scooter.. how long could it honestly take to build? _________________ John.W
