Today i REALLY wanted to get the left-side axle carrier done, or at least tacked into place so that i can really get it aligned good.
So, here is where i was yesterday... i got the right side halfway welded together, and i'm looking to see what size steel spacer i need to have for the adjuster, and also, i got a hold of the Stainless Steel bolts that i'll be using to mount the rear axle
So, i started out with the axle in the air, needing to connect to the lower arm of the swingarm...
Then, i pulled out the cardboard, and began fashioning up a template...
Then i took my template over to the 3/16" steel, and went to work!
And there ya go.. i attached it, measured a whole lot, and then clamped everything in place.
Now, before i tack welded anything, i wanted to align and brace the swingarm a bit better, so that it wouldn't move around/warp much when welding everything else. So, i first made a lower plate with the cardboard template, then transferred it to steel, and tacked it in place...
Then, i needed a vertical support, so i cut out some 2" steel, and made the rear vertical section... eventually this will all be boxed in for strength.
Now that all of that was done, i got to tack welding the left side axle support in place, and also welded up a few of my pie cuts that i had left.
So, that is where i'm at for today... i WAS going to be welding up the radiator, but my deburring tool decided to snap in half while i was deburring the inside of the tank areas, and so now i have to wait for the new one to arrive before i finish working on the radiator. Tomorrow i'm planning on finalizing the alignment of the rear axle blocks, and then fully welding in both sides of the swingarm, and finishing the strengthening up of the left side block, and the right side block uprights... i may also get going a little bit on the seat frame mounts... we'll see

I love the updates.... I already have the motor i am going to use in my ruckus build... It's a spare race motor i have sitting around hahaha..... It should be pretty unique... i dont wanna give away too much but its 500cc's and makes 140 whp hahahaha Now i just need to find myself a ruckus. There is a brand new black one at my local dealer but i really wanna try and find a used first. |

stickler64: Thanks! Yea, patience is helping out a lot.. lol! It'll be done soon enough. Each day i accomplish something on it, and sooner or later there won't be anything left to do
D Garage: Sounds fun... post a thread on it, and get to work! _________________ John.W

D Garage: not sure, and it doesn't really matter on this project... If we were overly concerned with producing the "most" hp, we wouldn't have gone with this motor setup. It'll make whatever it makes... as long as it runs right, idles great, and does what the customer wants, then that is what matters (but i'm sure it'll make PLENTY of power... haha!)
TC: LoL! thanks bruddah!
robbie: Thanks! Ya man, workshops rock! Then you can tear yours down, and have some REAL fun You don't need a storage room... lol! _________________ John.W

I do have a question now that I think about it. I was thinking about it the other day, but didn't want to join the hater ranks so I didn't ask.
What are you going to do about gearing? Boost on a super short geared motor turning a much smaller diameter tire than originally intended seems like a bad idea in concept. I would think the super short gearing would keep the motor from ever actually getting into boost (or being able to take advantage of it.)
You have definitely proven yourself to be a thinker though so I'm sure by now you have it all figured out.
Anyways, when's tc coming over? I wanna come drool over all the shiney parts. : _________________

I was just wondering if you had an estimate. Or if you knew anyone else running a boosted setup even close to what yoru going to run. Cuz i have never seen one and just wanted to get an idea of what you were thinking it would make... 200-300? cuz that seems so insane to me hahaha. I mean i'm trying to picture my 140 hp motor in a ruckus and that seems sketchy to me. And it just make me worry about if it would even be driveable at all considering most of the rear sprockets i run are bigger in size then the ruckus wheel outside diameter. |

PorkPoney: Its all good man... ask questions, i don't mind answereing them but you are right, with the gearing change that is occurring by changing tire size, and appropriate and significant change in the sprocket size will be required to be able to keep the speed close to realizstic, so that way this thing isn't maxing out at 40mph just because of gearing... lol! My machinist has a drawing of a custom rear sprocket... i'm going to have a few of them laser cut, and then he'll do some final machining on them, so that it interacts with the chain nicely. Then on the motor side, we'll be bumping up the sprocket size to help compensate as well.
As for TC, gotta ask him... lol! I'm here every day, but i know he only has one day off per week... i think he was talking about a week after fathers day or something. That way, i'll have my place on the shore all set up as well since i don't move in until after fathers day.
rollinjunk: It isn't ALL of the stuff i've worked on, but heres some random examples of other stuff i've played with in the past: http://www.panducky.com/Panducky-Motorsports-Galleries_ep_28.html
The most fun thing i've ever done (imo) is i installed a 700cc Jet Ski motor and pump assembly into a Gheenoe (flat-backed canoe)... That thing HAULED! lol! It was like a little Harley on water... insane.
D Garage: No, sorry, no estimates... we'll see what it'll do.
And UPDATES!.... not much of one though... lol!

Today i am extremely busy working on websites and doing some sticker designs and graphics, so i'm not going to be able to get anything done on the Ruckus, HOWEVER, my trim rings that i designed for the front ATV wheel arrived from the machine shop, so i got one and threw it on real fast to see what it'll look like... and wow, its nice!

After:
The hub looks sooo much better now with the ring on there... _________________ John.W

The hub certainly looks better with the ring installed.
The 450 is an fi motor isn't it? How were you planning on tuning for boost? _________________
