Pome: Thanks! Got any good creative suggestions, besides the same old overused Dio front fork that everyone seems to use? These won't be stock for very long anyway. Theres nothing wrong with working with what you have to make it better... its not just about going out and buying parts... anyone can do that
bowery: i won't leave them stock if i do use them... But we'll see... depends on what i can find out there. _________________ John.W

Well today i got to work on the right side swingarm axle carrier... I didn't get as far along as i would have hoped though, since i had to run to Cocoa this afternoon to pick up material for another project, but i got a decent bit done
So, first things first... here is what i had going on... i have this plate, and this is where i want the adjustable axle block to sit. So, i need to add support so that it'll be able to withstand the torque this motor will make, and make it permanant.
So, i needed to build a support. After some careful measurements, i grabbed some of my favorite rectangle tubing, and went to work creating the angles and bends that i wanted in the tubing. This is the piece i wound up with:
But first, i had to cut a notch in it, where it bends in... So first, i cut the flat area...
And then test-fit it...
Then, i cut the notch for the 3/16" rear motor mount, so that this rectangle would sit flat against the backing plate...
Then once i had that done, i measured, and cut a notch where the axle carrier would sit, and cut that on the band saw. Once i had that all done, here is how it all fit together...
Once that was sitting pretty, i had to finish the slot that the axle will ride in for the adjustment. So, i pulled out the trusty jigsaw, and cut the rest of the slot in both the axle block, and the flat backing plate...
Once that slot was cut, i fixtured everything together for one last tack weld and measurement session to make sure everything would fit right and lined up right...
And once i was happy, and everything was level and straight, i welded most of it up!
And there you have it! Now i just need to weld in the adjuster nut, which i already drilled the hole for, then box in the adjuster bloc, and finish welding the support to the backing plate, and then i need to make the backside support, which will run between the vertical upright, and the lower swingarm to provide added side-to-side strength for the arm. Also, i can box in the lower section of the trailing arm where the 'crescent' shape is, and of course the open end of the rectangle box section there at the bottom of the rear motor mount. _________________ John.W

Oh, I didn't know you had posted a pic of it before those. I wasn't saying you were trying to keep them secretive or anything. Being involved with ATV Motocross I just knew what they were anyway.
You should machine the center cap to where the axle fits through it and bolt it up. I think it would look killer plus keep the bearing enclosed some. _________________ Lightened Flywheels

No need to... i have a trim ring being machined right now that'll look better than that cap.
As for the Hardkor cap, it is useless with this setup even if i wanted to use it, since it fits into the exact space being occupied right now by the new bearing carrier. Also, my bearing carriers are designed to accept the OEM Honda axle seals, so dust won't be an issue anyway _________________ John.W

| This thread is SICK!!!!! For one you have inspired me to buy a ruckus.... and two you have inspired me to step up my FAB game and buy a tig welder. My mig welds can't come close to those welds right now. |
