Well, today was like any other Monday... except its Tuesday... haha! I got a call this morning from my machinist, saying that he had the Rear hubs re-machined, and he was changing up the bolt pattern for me for some different wheels... So, i wanted to go see them, and while i was there, drop off a project for the front wheel of this amazing scooter.
UNfortunately, the machinist is a 45 minute drive one-way... so, by the time i got back after lunch, there was a couple of boxes on my desk of things i had to take care of, and basically i knew right then that nothing would get done on the 450cc Ruckus today like i had planned.
But, something did get done on -A- ruckus... lol!
One of the boxes on my desk that arrived was a box from Ruck_off... it had his brand new (AND AWESOME!) rear shock in it, and the upper NCY mount for his extension. There were two issues... one, is that the upper bushings were too wide to fit into the NCY mount, and the second issue, is that the lower mount on the cvt case are incompatible, so i had to make an adapter mount that would bolt to his case, and then the shock would be able to bolt to that.
So, i whipped out some metal, and went to work... and this is what i came up with as a solution to his problem:
As you can see here, it utilizes a bolt hole in the rear that is not used on the stock Ruckus, and then the forward section bolts to the old shock location. Then, the middle hole is for mounting the shock into.
Here you can see the clearance it has with the stock tire... and of course the shaved bushings so that it now fits in the NCY upper mount...
Once it was all set and test-fitted in place, i painted it a nice semi-gloss black color...
And of course the product glamour shots... haha!
Once that mount was done, i had to weld together a few other things for some customers, and before you know it, the day was done... ::sigh:: i have to drive back down to the machine shop tomorrow morning, but the rest of the day should be fairly smooth sailing back ont he 450cc Ruckus project
A shock similar to this one will be what we use on the 450cc Ruckus project... i talked to the manufacturer about a shock setup, and i'll be ordering that tomorrow from them once i do some math on leverage points, weight, and suspension travel, so that i can choose a proper spring weight.

art: Thanks! I told you, we don't mess around over here sorry i wasn't fast enough for you on that other thing though But oh wells... not really my loss.
As for the lean angle, its been mentioned a few times, but here is the max lean angle of the Ruck for right hand turns:
Thats a LOT of leaning for a wide-tire scooter, even if it DIDN'T have the motor hanging off the side... Turning left, you'll be able to lean as much as you want... but again, there isn't much leaning of the scooter with the wide rear tire... its mostly leaning of your body. _________________ John.W

I check this every day - awesome work.
Are you going to put some kind of slider (like a frame slider) where any of the swingarm pieces would hit in a turn? _________________ Team Punkass Racing and Fabrication |

| Any idea on the turbo manifold or piping yet. Also how are you going to adjust the fuel. Is that motor carbed or injected? I love turbos! |

skangele: Ya, we're not far from Orlando at all Make sure you get with Tuesday Club as well while you're here... he could even Tattoo a souvenir of your visit for you on your arm or something... lol!
stainless and Ti? well, doubt i will have Ti on it (well....... sorta.. you'll see ), but i'll be picking up some stainless bits tomorrow that i am having made
MPA: Thanks for keeping up with it! Sorry for the delay in progress, but it'll get back on track very shortly... i'm setting aside all day tomorrow for some serious Ruck-Fab Fun But i have to find a place to live first. As for the frame slider, there will only be one place where the frame will be able to really hit, and yes, it will have a teflon block keeping things tidy.
Lance: Yea, i have LOTS of ideas lol! The fuel will be adjusted by the carb itself through its natural fuel delivery function based on airflow through the venturi... the turbo system will be a draw-through setup, so there actually won't be any mods to the carb at all over factory... other than i'm not using a factory carb The turbo had to be built especially for this kind of setup... and its the primary reason why the charge piping has to be designed very carefully, so that way you don't kick-start a bomb on accident... _________________ John.W

Progress is awesome!...... well... that is, when you have some.
Earlier this week, i found out that my lease on my house is up at the end of this month, and i was actually planning on renewing, but after looking at the place for the last couple of days, i'm sick of it... I decided last night that its too old, its too inefficient, its too big for one person, and it is far too much work considering my fairly tight weekend schedules with racing, so i don't have a lot of time to work in the yard and make it look nice....
So, i've made the decision to not renew my lease, so that means i'll have to find a new, smaller place... thankfully there are a TON around here, but i just have to find the right one... but that basically ate up my entire day today =(
The GOOD news, is that tomorrow morning, i should have the front wheel solution taken care of, and i'll be able to mount the front hub to the Ruckus... i will also be picking up the rear hub from the machinist in the morning, and will be able to finally get it mounted to the rear. I'm looking at a couple of places to live in the morning after i drive down to the machine shop, so when i get back, i'll be able to maybe get some things done on the RUckus tomorrow... i'm thinking that i'll finish welding up the radiator tonight though, and i'll get pics of it for y'all tomorrow. _________________ John.W

With the carb setup.... just to make sure I understand. You will have the carb then piping toing to the inlet of the compressor housing right? Thats a good idea. That way your air will be compressed and already saturated with fuel as it reaches the engine it self? I used to own a bunch of tubro civics... but they were all fuel injected of course. |
