A rear frame lengthend at the front mounting points. But I also think you should sell front frames with the front half of the neck (behind the front tire) welded up..
But most of my frame dimensions are good the way I have them, and I most likely won't change that.
But if you could do something "bolt-in" for behind the front wheel. That, I would definatly buy! Even if I had to drill holes in my nice powdercoated frame. |

LiteW8: Well, any of those things can easily be done by just shipping your frame pieces over here You could even ship your frame over, i could get the powder stripped off, do the mods, and then have it re-coated for you, and send it back... turnaround would be fairly fast.... just a thought
bowery: You'll just have to wait for the gas tank... haha! Its probably not what anyone is expecting though, but the plans are already made for its location..
rollin: Thanks!
wg2007: actually, i was thinking of mounting some strips on the bottom, like the old skateboard protective strips... so if it has to skid over something like a speedbump, it won't touch/hurt the frame, only replaceable plastic. I might have them made out of teflon or something _________________ John.W

I'd just have you order me a frame that can be sent to your shop so you can get to work on a clean slate. _________________ My Flickr photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/sanjuro62/

I guess you've never seen dumped Honda/Acura's before lol.
Coming together quite nicely. Stance on it looks tuff! |

SJ: Clean slates are always good slates Whenever you're ready
bowery: The wheel is the same size, but the tire will be smaller... the Ruckus got some tires that are like half-offroad/half-on-road, so they are HUGE. Once the smaller tire is put on the wheel, it'll have plenty of clearance. Also, there is so much weight on the back of this thing, that the front likely won't be compressing TOO much. As for the fuel tank, no, no Heini Kegs... It'll be a bit more hidden than that. The fuel tank isn't what i want to be showing off with this project And no, that doesn't mean it''ll be ballast... the ballast weight cannot be variable like that, otherwise the balance will change all the time. _________________ John.W

I'll commission some stuff after you are done with this project and your own ride. I don't want anything getting in the way of seeing these things come to life. _________________ My Flickr photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/sanjuro62/

wg2007: Haha! No, not the stock tank... and not the rear frame.. but you ARE getting closer...
SJ: not a problem... but nothing will come in the way of these things being rather lively haha!
ratt: Wow, well not that high... but higher than 10... so somewhere in the middle would be about right. I don't know exactly though, the scoot isn't done yet... lol! _________________ John.W

Well, i guess you could call today the "how to build your own lowered seat frame for WAY less than you'll pay for one of the 'uber jdm' frames" day... haha!
The welder was being occupied today doing other things, so not a whole lot got done on the Ruckus... but i DID get a little bit done.
First off, i've been playing with various ways to mount this radiator. The size is perfect for fitting in the frame, so i think its going to go something like this:
I'm going to be removing that crossmember there, and creat a more elegant mounting solution, but this is close to what will wind up being permanant. ALso, i'll be relocating the filler/cap/external reservoir to right under the seat.
Anyway, onto the seat frame!
Here is the stock frame... its almost unecessarily tall.
So, lets fix that!
The first thing you'll want to do, is cut off the rear mounts...
One second they are there...
Then they are not!
Then, smooth it all down to make it look nice!
Then, before we even really measure anything, we'll cut the front legs off at a set point, so that the cut-off legs are the exact same length... this makes duplicating all of your cuts and making sure everything is level, a whole lot easier. Also, if you drop them and get which side you have mixed up, it won't cause you more time in measuering to make sure you have the sides correct. In this case, i also labelled the legs anyway, leg "A" and leg "B" with a sharpie marker.
So, time for the first cut!
And that was easy!
So now, we can set the frame on the Ruck, and see how we like it...
This is good, but i want it lower... so, its time to trim a tab.
There, that was easy
Then, i leveled the seat frame, and measured the distance from the top bolt hole to the cut on the leg, then used that length and cut down the legs that i cut off earlier so that i would have the perfect length legs...
Here she is with a seat on, and the lower tube tack welded..
Now, you can see how the seat MIGHT sit next to the motor... i'm really not excited by how high this seat still is... i may wind up building a frame from scratch to lower the seat even more, and then just put this seat frame on my own Ruckus or something.
So yea, the seat is still too high (IMHO), but thats all for today! _________________ John.W

What about molding the seat into the frame? That would get it real low. _________________ 2008 Black Ruckus |
