I just got these mounted and I was very excited about how it turned out...so I wanted to get some pics posted to get some feedback. I still need to do some tweaking...need to shape some of the edges, I need to take down a little of the plastic around the front fender so it doesn't rub when turning, and I also plan to slide these medially and interlace some of the plastic with the headlight mount for further stability.
I got a used Memphis Shades Hellcat windshield pretty cheap on e-bay. I split it vertically using a dremel tool (easy!), exchanged sides and inverted, and mounted it to the 7/8" bar above the foot platforms. (I had to loosen the parking brake housing on the right side) One thing I like about Memphis Shades is that the mounting hardware is super beefy. They are VERY stable as is. I haven't had the bike up to speed yet, however I doubt that I will need a second mounting point. (I'll let you know how that goes)
I know this won't be nearly as effective at keeping air off me when riding in the cold weather compared to the OEM legshields. However, these were much cheaper, much more aerodynamic, and look a helluva lot better (I think)!!!

dude!.....they're sweet!,.....but can i make one suggestion to you??
......mount that windshield to your handlebars!,...then move those leg shield mounts back 3 inches & down 3 inches, to the tube frame between the footrest & the 2" frame,....would look SO much sweeter & cleaner.....& probably actually deflect the wind better, less wind felt, due to them being closer to you. You might have to reverse those legshiled mounts,....and have the bottom of them about ankle height....
as well,...you could use TWO mounts on the same frame in that location, to give a much sturdier mount. _________________ Ride'er like ya stole'er! |

I like the approach; would like to see a bit of tweaking.
Would be nice if they could be swiveled at will with a locking
hand wheel once in the desired pattern. In warmer weather I'd
like to scoop in some cool air and close them down a bit in
cooler weather.
I was thinking of placing operable vents like those of old Vetter
windshields into my OEM legsheilds. Would also like to cut a port
in the right one for my HELLA Micro HID lamp to shine through. _________________ "A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion.

The FRONT PIPE SET is 1-1/2" not 2". The ATV light mounts from PIAA
would be good to make a support with some sort of bent rod with
threads in the ends like the OEM windshield mounts from Japan. I think
they are 6mm thread with rubber grommet in windshield and
a washer under the bolt that goes through the grommet. OEM
has a phillips screw with a mushroom head on it. _________________ "A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion.

Very nicely done..... The windshield I hacked apart to make mine was shorter and created too much wind at my ankles, but yours gives coverage all the way to foot similar to the Battlescooter version.
With the right bag on the front rack, I bet it is very aerodynamic and probably fairly airtight.
( or even an adjustable spoiler? ) ....
I like the whole effect. A nice cold weather setup!

I hadn't thought about putting a bag up front to make things a bit more air tight....nice idea. I plan to move the shields toward the middle more than in the photo...that will help with wind protection also.
I like all the suggestions. Unfortunately, I think the shields are mounted on the only bar that will work since I am using the Memphis Shades hardware and they will not work on larger tubes. I also am wary about making any blemishes on the paint or cutting into anything plastic in the course of mounting the shields. I plan on taking these off in the summer and I don't want to hurt the look of the bike.
I'll post more pics when I have everything finalized and will give a review on how effective these shields are at blocking the wind.
Sawman....thanks for the great recs! I just can't bring myself to mount to the handlebars....I'm concerned about stability (unfounded, I'm sure) and I don't want the windshield any lower than it is right now (I am already using the extended mounting rods) |

Those are way cool!! I can totally see your concept since I mounted my pegs on that frame pipe and you are using the Memphis Shades with the extended mounting rods!! Super nice Bro.....Ali _________________ 2005 Big Yellow |

I like them better since you swapped them around and mounted your wind screen to the handle bars. Nice work!
