|
|
Got my ruckus back in June 07 with only 150 miles and have been surfing around here ever since. I thought I would finally post some pics of the thing. I call it my little monster, and you probably understand why I do from the pics.
I am pretty much satisfied with what I have done so far, but I think maybe some disc brakes and a paint job might be in the works before the new year. Still have a few little things I need to take care of like a front fender and shaving off the rear tail light assembly. Not much done to the motor. Only variator, belt, clutch springs, cdi, intake, exhaust. Everything else is pretty much cosmetic. Let me know what you guys think. I welcome all comments.
Here is a chronology of the bike with mods. I'll try to post more pics as I go along and update the thread.
This was the first month I had the bike. Very first ride for me with the SGV crew. At the time, not many people in the SGV had rucks. This was about last July 2007. The ruck caught on here, really quick.
More pics of my stock bike. This was with JonathanF2, who I think doesn't come on here as much.
Added some goodies after I saw what Steven (aka Ruckus) was doing to his bike.
Picked up a Kitaco shock at Bowls. Great because it had dampening and was adjustable height.
Also picked up a RPM exhaust from someone. Sold my MRP. Had this for about six months but was too loud so I sold it. It also messed up my jetting big time.
How the looked with the KN forks, NCY handle bar/clamp/brace/ kickstart and lowered seat.
I loved the look but decided to go with a different one after a few months. I had saved up some $$$ and ordered a crap load of stuff and this would be the start of my makeover. Can you guess what was in the box?
This box is kind of obvious.
Picked up a tank and luggage cover and decided to paint them
Had the bike stripped down for the new stuff in the box
Did you figure out what was in the box.
So I bought SJ's old frame and BB. I fell in love with his bike since I started looking on here and I was planning to paint the ruck Gunmetal, but when opportunity knocks; I just figured it was easier to buy it from him. The frame was beautifully painted and all I had to do was paint my headlight bracket and Kitaco fender to match and I was pretty much done.
Here is another shot with the exhaust all mounted. It didn't come with a new gasket and the stock one doesn't fit, so I made my own gasket with some Mr. Gasket material
Had my tail light all set up with some Lockhart Phillip blinkers and a free Kijima bracket I got. I didn't want to drill into the frame, so I made some holes in the luggage cover and mounted it that way. I have a PWJDM light setup coming soon, so this should be for sale.
Here is another shot of the front. You can tell what a great job SJ did with the paint, flawless.
I got my girl into the ruck right after I bought it, but she liked the look of the met, so she picked one up. We went on a ride recently to the Pasadena City Hall to take some pics
I suck at pictures, but you get the idea
The security guard came by and asked us where he could buy one. hahah
Here we are filling up some gas before hitting downtown Monrovia for a movie.
I finally threw on my disc brakes after piecing it together for the last year or so. I bought little parts here and there from different members. Its a KN 220mm disc with Brembo caliper, Nissin MC, Russell SS brake line. I also got a set of KN Low Downs and sold my CF standard set. I got the Kitaco fender painted and mounted it all up. Here it is in all its glory.
Some more close up shots.
You can see my girl's bike in the background getting neglected. I feel like I'm being watched.
A couple of days later I got ride of the NCY foot brace I rattle can painted black and picked up a MPAB/BTX foot brace. Damn thing looks shiny!! Reused my NCY foot pegs, but hopefully will replace them in the future.
Picked up the Stage6 kickstart from Ricky (Bruno317) Adds to the painted cover. Damn paint is so shiny!!
Here is a close up of the Zero Duke. I ordered the largest tip with a slash cut. I have seen standard cuts but this just looks freaking awesome. You can see the GM Dio wheel in there too. The exhaust is so big that it covers the wheel, which kind of sucks, because I would like to show the wheel more, but it's still cool.
Got my PWJDM bolts in. Used a set of bolts on here and for the gas tank cover.
I mounted a KOSO Rpm gauge, but haven't wired it up. Kind of fuc@ the hole up so, I found a rubber grommet to cover it.
Here is a close up of the disc brake and fender
I finally got rid of the stock seat, which was hurting my ass on rides longer than 10 miles. I bought Scott's (Slevin) seat and it was well worth it. My ass thanks him. I also cut up the luggage cover to access the carb better and picked up a JDM cup holder with my Bowls Reward Points. Boooyah!!!
Close up shot of the BMF 245mm I picked up. Ended up selling the Kitaco. I loved it but the color just clashed with everything. This flows much better and is way stiffer. You can see all my K&N filters in there too. Was using the stock snorkel but just slapped it on there and it works like a charm. I tried different jetting but ended going back to the stock setting and adjusting the mixture and tuning it a little. I can get it to about 43mph on flats, which is where I should be. I can still top out over 45+ going downhill with the help of the wind of course.
So this is how she sits now. I am satisfied with all the work I have done for the past year and half and of course the next step is going to be a swap. I plan to do this next summer. I was side tracked earlier this year with another project, which I will post pics of here as well.
Friends of the Ruck
Here are some pics of my other bikes. I try to balance it out, but it seems the ruck somehow gets more attention.
01 Malaguti F12 LC
I love this bike. I bought it back in 2002 when I started college and it has come a long way. Upgrade to a Malossi motor, with a lot of work done to it. Has aftermarket carb, clutch, variator, crank, etc....Took it out the other day to a nice 1/2 mile stretch and I can honestly say I had it up to about 65mph. An absolute blast to ride and I bought it from an old dude who said he could never get it above 38mph, that was of course stock.
72 Honda CB350k4
Picked up this beauty for $300. I had some plans for it but got side tracked. It runs and has some goodies in it. Only has 13k miles.
03 Ducati Monster 620 - SOLD!!
Ended up getting this last year after I had an itch for something faster. Got it on the Ducati Monster forums and it is a blast to ride. A lot of low end torque and great for city driving. I just love the look of the single head light and the naked frame. I know its slower than any gixer or r6 out there, but I love this bike. It gives me what I want when I want it. Bought some Arrow high mounts for it and plan to get it chipped.
65 Honda CB160 Cafe Racer
This is not a picture of my cafe racer. It is however a pic of Jason Lee's (My name is Earl) bike. When I first saw this at the Long Beach International Motorcycle show I absolutely fell in love with it. I knew racing cb160s are getting more popular in the NW, so I began to go on a search for one. I kind of abandoned my 350 and started working on this instead. I managed to track down Jason Lee's builder and started talking to him. I visited his shop and got some ideas. After two months I found a great donor for $300. I cleaned it up and disassembled it and sent it to him to do some fab work.
It looked like crap and had some scrambler pipes on it, which wasn't even right for that year. I later decided to keep the pipes.
This is how it looked after a good wash. Was able to remove the headlight. Order a bunch of parts
Tank was missing the pads, so I ordered a set of ebay and a set of emblems
Here is a shot of the motor. Look how dirty that sh!t is. I guess this is what happens when you let a bike sit for 25 years.
Had some NGK plugs, carb was funky, chain was crap. Took it all off.
Removed all the foot rest and shifters and ordered new ones.
Here it is after draining the fluids and removing the seat, headlight, bars, etc...
Closer shot of the forks, tree. Picked up a newer one on ebay and should be coming in soon.
Ordered a new pair of Red Wing (Made in Japan) shocks and going to get the wheels redone. Planning to paint the lip black and have the spokes chromed.
I sent it to the shop where he's gonna be welding some custom brackets for the scrambler pipes and the holder for the battery in the cafe seat.
Here you can see the seat being fitted. Planning to have the bike in a Black/Silver/Chrome theme. I like Jason's red frame look, but decided to do a black frame and black wheels. something about black just looks sexy to me.
Removed the engine and all the heavy shit underneath the tank. I am planning to have the least amount of stuff in there as possible. Keep it super light to make up for the power. Should be a similar setup to Jason's bike except no big bore (No $$$)
You can see the custom bracket for the battery. Were planning to run all the wires under the seat for that clean look. It's gonna look like theres no electrical hanging all over the place.
After three months. I had the engine finally rebuilt. New seals, bolts, gaskets, etc... Had it compression tested. Ended up replacing some minor stuff. Had it painted silver to match the seat and headlight bucket.
Here is another shot
A third shot. You can see where the exhaust is going to come out. I kept the scrambler pipes instead of the Dunstall style ones because I wanted it to look different. Replaced all the Honda covers with new chrome pieces. I loved how the motor is stamped "161" It gives it personality. I just hope I can break 75mph on this. I know Jason's bike can do like 85mph but it has a big bore (188cc) with race carbs, velocity stacks, etc...
Got the frame back from powdercoat and damn was it clean. Got the wheels all done and laced up from Buchannan. Mounted them up. Finally got the exhaust back. Had it ceramic coated black and re-chromed the heat shield. Mounted it up with the motor in there and threw on some Mikuni carbs while I was at it. Also picked up a set of cafe bars and threw that on too.
Here is a close up shot of the exhaust and motor. Not running velocity stacks like Jason, but I should get some decent power out of it. You can see some of the wiring is for the headlight and electrical. Not planning to have a electric start. Kick start all the way baby!! Old School!!
I got the seat back all upholstered and threw it on to check it out. Headlight bucket is going to be painted with the seat and tank soon. Going to be silver like Jason's bike. Also threw on all the chrome pieces for the forks and misc.
Another shot from the rear. You can see the custom brackets for the exhaust and how close it is to the rear shock. From the other side of the bike you can see the other side of the exhaust and it is sick. As of now, this is how it sits. Waiting on some paint and then going to tune the carbs and some other misc things.
Thanks for reading!!!

I've been out a couple of times since that night, but been busy w/ school on Thurs. Taking one night class at PCC with my gf.
The ruck hasn't been running as good as I want it to. I have to install the slow jets I picked up from bowls soon. Other than that, I've healed up pretty good.
I also picked up another project bike I've been kind of working on the side. It's slow progress but, I am taking my time with it. It's really hard to find good parts for it since its a 35 year old bike. Thanks for asking though. I hope you guys are having fun on the night cruises. Haven't really seen any new vids on it though. |

Thats the Kitaco shock with adjustable dampening. Bowls should still have them. Just call them up. Great shock but kind of pricey. |

Been overdue for an update. I have been collecting parts for months and I am ready to tear it down and get busy.
Here are some pics of whats to come.
I wonder what's in here????
Tearing it down for the new look
Some minor painting about to happen......
Disc brakes are coming soon, I just need a Dio wheel. I have been putting together the set-up for months and buying parts from different people. I will have more pics of some of the stuff installed when I get time this weekend. It is definately worth the wait though.
Right now I am also working on another project that I just finished painting and restoring. To get an idea here is it how it looked like 6 months ago.

| It's a cb350 k4. I am planning to paint it some sort of green. Maybe an olive green or something along those lines. |
