Post subject: Sachs
That Sachs is pretty cool. Does anyone still import them to North America? We need to find a way to get some of this cool stuff from overseas! I have some old contacts that used to import Italian, and Spanish bikes for the observed trials market, and I bet I could get some action going with them for some scooters/parts? Sound interesting to anyone, or does anyone have any first hand experience with this? Not looking to start a full blown import operation, but something small scale with an established importer would be fun, and probably make enough money to keep it going. (discounts to TotalRuckus members of course Very Happy ) Oh well... probably just wishfull thinking, but with the scooter market heating up, it is not impossible. Anyhow, back to the Sachs... This is not a scooter, but it's another ride from Sach's, or a concept anyhow... these guys are working on some cool stuff. Check this out.

sachs is cool.
their design is forward thinking and quite impressing, but not perfect.
unfortunatly they don't sell enough bikes.

i really like the sachs "beast" on the pic but still have problems with
their "mad ass". it looks very cool but don't really like that frame design.
i think it reminds me too much on some cheap 80ies mopeds or maybe
not really beautiful in terms of constructivism.

but they are a straightforward firm and have a young marketing.
so if you are interested i would directly contact them by email.
maybe there could be a possibility for them to export a small
series to the US in any way ...

Tha bike has been out for 5-6 years, and surprisingly it is not a custom. Confederate is a small company producing the "new American Sportbike."

Nesbitt what's his name spoke at a conference I was supposed to go to.

The Wraith much better design. The carbon fiber girder front end is the baddest peice of CF that I've seen. These pics dont even do it justice.

The yellow one up above is the one I put some cash down on. When the guy delivers it I'll pay him the rest. He put on the wire wheel, but I'm putting on the stock mags, or lacing those hubs up to bigger rims. I like the mags better- it's an 18 in the back and a 19 up front.

Yamaha would definitly have a following if they sold the Sr here.

From engadget.com: "Not the first kind of hybrid when you think of a hybrid these days, the Fhybrid scoots from points A to B with a little bit of this (hydrogen) and a little bit of that (Li-ion cells). Oh sure, they could have just made it easy and gone with the reliable old NiMH batts, but where's the fun in that? Crijn Bouman, who designed the Fhybrid at the Delft University of Technology, claims it'll hit up to 40mph and has a range of 124 miles. In other words, plenty far enough to get a mouth full of bugs."

That's the way clubman bars are supposed to go. Most people mount them upside down, so they sit like normal handlebars. No offense or anything. I like the look too.

Those bars, when mounted properly, give you the feel of clip-ons without all the hassle of installing them.

Thanks for those radical triumph chops Robo, good finds and very unique styles. I did hesitate to use the term "bobber" not knowing the complete history but the mags seem to call the bikes with shorter front forks, "bobbers". I like that look. The Triumphs have those cool tranny cases and smaller tanks, they just look like my kind of bike.

My brother has a '72 Honda CB360 like this one but more F***ed up.

He sold his Ruck to get it and now he is trying to get me on a "real bike" too. So I have been researching a "real bike" to add to the stable someday. I think I have found it in those custom "old school" triumphs.

I think its a KR motor, or it could just be some other weird little thing. I saw it in a Harley mag, and it was in a Harley show. The flathead motor has a left-side chain drive- like their current big twins, but the KR is a right-side drive- like todays sporter motor. Unless he's got a right-drive gearbox...

^Thats a high price too.

What you do is...
Get this frame- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-PASSPORT-C-70-FRAME_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34284QQihZ009QQitemZ190051599698QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V

These forks prob fit- or something similar-
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-XR-75-XR75-FRONT-FORKS-1978-111_W0QQitemZ320151371784QQihZ011QQcategoryZ35592QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
even better
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-TRAIL-90-110-COMPLETE-FRONT-END-90-110_W0QQitemZ150154683113QQihZ005QQcategoryZ35580QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

dig up some wheels-
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VINTAGE-HONDA-CT90-CT-TRAIL-90-70-71-72-73-74-75-76-77_W0QQitemZ230164081004QQihZ013QQcategoryZ10066QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
the rear might be a bitch- theres a few front end and wheel kits in JP. An xr50 rear hub might fit, then a bigger rim could be laced to it.

oh and the motor-
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/125cc-LIFAN-Engine-fits-Honda-CRF50-XR-50-SL70-CRF-50_W0QQitemZ140151987530QQihZ004QQcategoryZ35595QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Basically for under $500 you'd have a good start. All thats needed is new bearings, paint, and other small parts. $2000 to do one like in the pic, if all the right moves are made.

No, I meant total build cost has to be around $20k trying to build one in the US with real deal parts.

"Someone should look in to swapping that engine in to a Ruckus, including the manual gearbox." A few people have discussed it, but from what I think- it might look too contrived to be a good swap. The Honda Giorcub would be a good design to work off of though.

My mistake- I get the DAX's and Chaly's mixed when they are so slammed.

it came from a site dealing with a specific model of old scooter...and that was a modified one...but seeing as how there's no throttle and brake setup (unless in the floor somehow) i think it's been turned into a kids toy. but you can see in the back end how the red shape shows it was once a scooter with an engine.

Yeah, it won't win any land speed records stock but your tractor comment was dead on. What beasts of offroad. My brother in law is going to try riding one without the front chain next summer to work and back, the law here states any 49cc bike with a headlight can bet regestered and ridden, I told him we'll just have to break out the dremel (110cc) and get creative on the fake 49cc engine casting mark. He's built a couple with OHV Briggs engines and they pull the front tire NP. Just thought those who haven't would be interested to see one.

Was just checking out "scooters of the apocalipse" Rokon's are old news here.

Yamaha Razz:

Quote:
Here's some shots of my rat-scooter - it was a Yamaha Razz in it's previous life.
I stripped off all the plastic, mounted a gas tank motorcycle-style, remounted the lights on pieces of slotted angle, painted it all with matte black spray paint and sand, built a custom oil injection tank, added the ever-popular ammo box saddle bags, and various other small modifications. And yes, the white thing on the front is a skull.

Yeah, I've been working on a Katana holder for mine for a couple days now. I'm just going to use it to take a few cool pictures though, obviously I'm not going to ride around with a katana strapped to my Ruckus.

If the Ruckus had a gearbox, the Cub does, it could probably get 250mpg.

They aren't bad for fuel economy, the Ruckus gets close to 100mpg with one and probably gets better fuel economy than the Cub in stop and go traffic. It's just that if you have a gearbox you can put it in top gear and cruise along with the engine spinning just above idle, which you can't really do with the type of CVTs scooters have.

"Kawasaki getting into the Scoot game? Maybe if Oberdan Bezzi has something to do with it.

OBIBOI is back at it with what he envisions Kawasaki should do to make their foray into the Scooter world. It's genetics are pretty obvious... Knobby tires, narrow plastic fenders, high stance, and Kawasaki's motorcross green, it's like a baby cousin to the KX series. I see some potential for a narrow little mud hopper like this, especially if it were a 2 stroke Minarelli or something with good tuning support.

A rough Babelfish translation of Bezzi's blog says:

KAWASAKI KS-50

Here first scooter the 50 from KAWASAKI, usually allergic Japanese brand to these vehicles.
In order to enter in this combattutissimo market, one has decided for a decidedly sport model and much tempting one for the public of the adolescents.
The KS-50 has a modern aspect much and aggressive one, minibadly recalls in some way the models from motocross of the house and its line and much "aerea"dice something of new in the panorama, lately rather static, of scooterini the sportswomen.
Naturally it is available in several colors, but verda the Kawa is decidedly that to choose.

So, what do you think? Should Kawasaki take the plunge? What do you like/dislike about the design?"

The issue there is the 49cc and under market. With our outdated and uniformed laws that is 100% different market than the 50cc+. The way the big four look at it is they would rather you buy a $10,000 crotch rocket or cruiser than waste their time on a scooter that you need plates and a license for.

I've talked to the guys at the dealership about this at length, they could give a shit about the 16-25 year old DUI crowd that buy 49cc bikes. Which IMO is stupid, a customer is a customer and a sale is a sale. Besides most of the time it's a gateway bike.

say, TC, pushing the engine back 20 inches, did you have to do anything to the stock wire harness? anything other than fuel line/rear brake cable/throttle cable?

It's nice that info gets out there, but the bikes from '03. How is this country going to show interest if they are shut out. I wish Yamaha would sell the SR here- it's a top selling model in Jp, and every time I take mine out it gets more attention that a cheesy chopper. The Solo is a badass bike- I know I'd love to have one.

Expensive though! $5499 for a 50cc! The NSR50R was only $3499, which still seems like a lot given that Ninja 250's go for the same coin.

Totally agree. I flirted with the idea of a Kikker Hardknock. I had a couple reservations-titling, durability in the long run, etc. If the solo were in the US (with a 125cc option or above), I'd be all over it.

It rides really well, the rear shock is a bit stiff for my weight, but other than that I have no complaints. It's a little bit bigger and heavier than the older Jogs, but it's a fair bit faster anyway.

Thanks never saw a video just pictures before, great! love the way it goes up on 2 wheels during turns. Smallest production car ever, but the 2 smoker on thing was really bad, you know Cali gets like a third of its pollution blowing over from Asia now?
They have some crazy tuk-tuks here but nothing that small. Between the 50 year old buses and those smoking cigs is probably better than walking down some streets.

The engine, throttle and rear brake are all custom.
The original throttle was forward for gas, pull back for braking.
This thing has infinite leg room and felt really good to sit on.. Believe it or not.

he is also the innovator of the original Fat Tire Scooter mod.

HiTechRedneck - 16 Apr 2008 07:22 pm

Actually, the trimmers work better. They use a direct shaft drive.

I have a buddy who was stationed in Korea. He told me that kids there would mount trimmers on a pivot to where the output shaft of the trimmer would contact the back tire on their bicycles. The throttle up and haul ass!! Kinda like a single reduction system. Very cool. The biggest pro for the timmer is that you already have a remote throttle...it's a bit more to fab up if you use a saw.

I've thought about it....especially when I was working for the local Stihl dealer (which is the trimmer in the above pic).

And btw, that MS880 would work great, but for the cost of that saw you can buy a new Ruck. The cylinder and piston kits alone are around $300 Shocked
